Craigslist sometimes contains rants about hipsters, posers, and richard sachs bikes.
Ebay usually doesn't, except for 165's "collectors make me sick" bit.

yeah, I'm proud of my hatred.

(edit - the reason for that was someone here offered to buy these if "they were pristene." Ha ha....fool. I use my stuff.)

cl bay area works well, same with ny. everywhere else does not have enough people useing it.

you can find deals on cl if you hustle.

ebay prices can blow out of wack. unless it's listed incorrectly, way big way or small sizes.

you will find things on ebay when you want it. cl is a waiting game.

Largely anonymous, feedback-based purchases with at least some semblance of recourse vs. "Forget 'buyer beware', I'm starting to think that meeting this guy in an empty parking lot at midnight with a grand in cash in my pocket maybe wasn't the best idea."

I hate local pick-up- drugged out whack jobs coming to my home... presumably just to case the place.

Save on fees with Craigslist, but you have to deal with "the public" directly.

Bikes: Pista

i hate both. im in the middle fo no where so i cant find a decent deal on a bike in my size thats not a pista an ebay just is rediculously high priced right now. Im not angry about CL pricing. it seems ok but finding something for me seems impossible. im sure ill find something when i have no more money after buying something else. that is generally how it works....

craigs you got to deal with people coming to your house and trying to haggle you down in price. Ebay someone buys it and it's done.

Totally agree with you from a sellers point of view.
I was speaking froma buyers POV. When buying from CL you get to see the product before you hand over cash. Ebay you buy and wait and hope that the photos were accurate and shipping is quick.

it's been said, but with ebay there are a number of ways you can approach a refund, and usually griping to a seller that there was a tiny blemish that was not picked up by the camera or disclosed by the verbiage of the auction description will get you a partial refund or some sort of retribution. most sellers live in fear of negative recourse from ebay since the buyer is protected so damn well. also, most sellers (the conscientious ones at least) will do anything to avoid bad feedback. being nitpicky without overstepping the boundaries of greed will go quite a ways.

don't forget the outrageous "handling" fees people slip on the the shipping charge on ebay. ridiculous.
shipping a 170 gram road saddle inside the u.s. should not cost 12.50. come on.

I didn't notice that. Bought brake levers off German eBay, paid, the seller marked the item "paid", a month ago. It still hasn't arrived (to a German address to a friend of mine). I asked the seller what's up, did he send it or not. He is obviously a moron who doesn't spek English too well, so communication was problematic. In the end, I received an unpaid item strike!!! The item is still marked as paid, and I still haven't received it. WTF???

Bikes: Too many to count

Ebay - nationwide shopping
Craiglist - local citywide shopping

Ebay - buyers must adhere to a Ebay policies is they win the auction
Craigslist - buyers are a bunch of cheap-azz mofos who will nickel and dime the shi* out of you.

Agreed, a friend of mine was selling something for $10. The guy said he would buy it, but showed up with only $8 in his pocket.

if you have any sort of documentation of this (the fact that it is marked "paid" for instance, or any email back and forth between you and the sellers) then all of this can be brought to ebay through the proper channel and sorted out. the strike will be removed and placed on the seller, for sure. ebay protects the buyer a whole lot, especially when there is some sort of evidence. it's a serious hassle and its hard to figure out who to direct the claim to, but it almost always gets worked out (assuming you are taking the necessary steps)
