Removing Decals...

I was looking at getting either the chrome or sage greenish Bianchi Prista but I'd like to remove the decals from the bike...how difficult is that and what is the process. Thanks.

a hair dryer, goo-be-gone and a razor blade....take it easy and be patient....although a sandblaster does the same work in much less time.

You can get eraser wheels (pin striping removal wheels) from a tool store. There designed to remove adhesive from painted surfaces (chrome too). Chuck it up in your drill and have at it.

Heres what Im talkin about!

Wurth eraser wheel

These will only work if there not clear coated!

Search the forums, it's all over the place. "painting chrome" was one of the more recent threads on it.

EDIT: Damn, didn't mean to double post.

Since the decals are under a clearcoat, it might be better to mask off the rest of the frame and paint over. This would create contrasting colour 'bars' which is very retro.

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure all the disapproving glares you are sure to encounter will burn the decals right off.

i'm in the process of stripping decals from an old raleigh. got all the stickers off, but the adhesive is another story. our neighbors gave me their goof-off to use, but then it started eating my clearcoat. so i'm off to purchase some goo-gone.

stupid goof-off.

Bikes: 1997 Schwinn Moab2 cross-country racing, highly modified, rebuilt many, many times. very fast!

soak a washcloth in boiling water and wrap it around the tube the decal or sticker is on. the heat will losen the sticker. while the cloth is wraped around the tube, squeeze the cloth and twist it in an effort to make the decal slide or move. if it moves it's losing it's grip to the painted (or non-painted tube) and you can peel it off without doing any damage to paint or any finish the bike has.

Bianchi Pistas are clear coated. You have to remove that before you can remove the decals, and actually, the process of removing the clearcoat will remove the decals as well. Hot water, razor blades, etc... wont work.
You need a clearcoat remover. Go to your local hardware store and ask them for one.

If I take the clear coat off do I just do it where the decals over and the apply clear coat again? It has nothing to do with afraid of riding a Bianchi, its just that I'm getting it for everyday riding(to class, to work, to girlfriends) and I feel like the Bianchi stickers scream "I didn't come from a yard sale, take me"...

btw- I think the sage greenish is the 2006 but I could be wrong, It doesn't look like the concept to me...

Please post a pic of this sage greenish pista of which you speak.

Whether or not to remove the entire clearcoat or just in the area of the decals is up to you. There is the chance that if you only remove the area of the decals that there might be a noticable difference in finish. If you don't care about that, then go right ahead. A friend of mine removed his and he just stripped the entire bike down. It's an easy enough process.
As far as reapplying the clearcoat when you're done, it probably isn't the worst idea. I'm not sure how much riding in the rain you'll do, or how prone to rust the Pista frame is but to be on the safe side, I'd reapply a clearcoat or, probably better yet, get a professional to do so.

Q: what kind of hipster doofus rides an all chrome bike that
screams "ask me about how unique & cool I am?"?

A: oh this kind: https://www.bikeforums.net/singlespeed-fixed-gear/92057-stripped-chrome-pista.html

To 165: I just might do that & I "heart" you.
