Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I found a used 2003 Bianchi on ebay which I'm interested in buying. I've been unicycling for the last few years, so this will be my first bike in a long while. I'm worried about getting the right fit, and I just used the www.competitivecyclist.com calculator to figure out my size. I'm tall, 6'3".

These are my numbers:
------------------------The Competitive Fit------- -The Eddy Fit
Seat tube range c-c-- ---58.3 - 58.8---------------- 59.5 - 60.0
Seat tube range c-t----- 60.1 - 60.6 ---------- 61.3 - 61.8
Top tube length -------- 59.8 - 60.2----------------- 59.8 - 60.2
Stem Length------------ 12.6 - 13.2----------- 11.5 - 12.1
BB-Saddle Position------ 83.9 - 85.9---------- - 83.1 - 85.1
Saddle-Handlebar ------ 59.8 - 60.4--------------60.6 - 61.2
Saddle Setback--------- 5.8 - 6.2-------------- 7.0 - 7.4
Seatpost Type---------- NON-SETBACK------- - SETBACK

And these are the bike's numbers:
Size 59.0
Seat tube (center-to-top) 590
Top tube(actual) 575
Top tube(virtual) 575
Chainstay 383
Fork rake 28.0
Head-tube angle 75.0
Seat-tube angle 75.0
Wheelbase 973.0
Standover height (inches) 33.0

The auction is located here: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

My question: should I wait for a better fit? is the bike itself worth it?
The auction ends soon so please help out if you can!

Bikes: some but not enough

IMHO close enough, you realize that only the seat tube C-T and top tube length compare between the 2 sets of numbers. The rest of your fit numbers are then achieved by adjustments to the bike (you may need a new stem for optimal). Except, are you good with a 33" stand over? (i.e. your body is of normal proportion?)

Two rims plus spokes, plus assembly, are going to run from $150-$200. I think a new bianchi pista runs about $600 and other new competitive brands (raleigh rush hour, etc.) are within $600-$800. So If the price gets much higher than it currently is, I would consider just going for a new bike, or keep looking. There's a good B. pista on the LA craigslist for $400 right now. Or consider a conversion. just my opinion.

Also keep in mind that Track bike frame sizing is slightly different than a road bike, because of the generally higher bottom bracket position but anything close should be ok, winning an auction is an artform by itself. good luck.
