From the best of my understanding, which is pretty limited these days, I was under the impression that there were 3 catagories for the Friday race. Those being: NYC, out-of-town, & Female.
So don't let not being a New Yorker deter you.

In other news, I am severly upset that i will be missing both races that weekend. You people have to fill me in afterwards!

Only someone from Boston would say such a thing.

bostontrevor 10-04-05 09:27 PM

Yeah right.

Someone truly from the Hub would rejoice in the fact that Boston is neither in nor around F'ing NY. This is the essence of being a m*******.

The only person (so far) doing the 100$ race is you msngr, so you'll have to do the course to get your 100$ back. Couple months ago you talked about doing a race like that, so i imagine this one is also your idea. good luck kicking your own ass. aren't the people (trackfarts) throwing that race your sponsors?
whoever came up with roosevelt island???this looks like the longest helloween yet.good luck all
p.s. Are you the one looking for suckers on craigslist?

RedMenace 10-04-05 11:30 PM

i don't think trackstar is putting on the rich-guy race.

You have no faith. I'd ride. Maybe. Want to wander down for a practice run sometime? Also, you could give away $100 to me anytime you want.

I wonder what the course will be like for the Benjamin race...anybody know?

marcelinyc 10-04-05 11:51 PM

is mafia coming?

ch0mb0 10-05-05 08:57 AM

anyone here considering a team run at the cheaper race, or are we all doing this solo?

chimblysweep 10-05-05 09:02 AM

tempting. really f'ing tempting...
but i just found out my court date is that friday.
crappy.

wangster 10-05-05 09:11 AM

I'm sure missmercian is gonna do it, if not she should. chOmbO, is the cheaper race a team race? I thought it was solo. I'd be down to do the cheaper race since I have neither the money nor skill to do the richie rich race.

EnLaCalle 10-05-05 09:25 AM

yeah, in the classic alley-cat publicity style, there is very little explaining -- i.e. team vs. individual? bah. who knows.

Trackstar 10-05-05 06:43 PM

Three days of events.
Friday: Benjamins, $100 in winner takes all. Outta towners compete only against outta towners. Locals agains locals. All ladies against all ladies.
Saturday: La Calavera is team and solo. Individual $10, Team of three $20 (Cheaper to race as a team)
Sunday: Church of Track, FREE. Skids, Bkwrds Crcls, Track Stands, Sprints, Foot Down, Polo, Whatever.

Msngr 10-05-05 07:19 PM

alex, you gonna do the benjamins race?

someone's gotta do this with me. i figured a race like this would filter out the weak, of course, but not the strong and poor (which is most of the people i know). i mean, all ya gotta do is win, and then you get your money back plus.

what about zack? he's got a good chance of winning, too.

btw, i am still not 100% on the benji race. i don't like the way they are not releasing the checkpoints prior to the race, and i know the after party is at capone's in brooklyn, so i know there will be brooklyn checkpoints. i am still a little new to this side of the river, and i live out in bed-stuy, so i am always lost when there are checkpoints in brooklyn. it's like an out off town race for me at that point.

that is because many people from out of town come to alleycats nowadays, so posting checkpoints early is more fair to them. and in nyc, if you have brooklyn checkpoints, it IS like out of town for many messengers.

i DO miss the old alleycats, especially the phantoms, where you didn't know the next checkpoint until you got to the previous. they were fun, but i think those days are over.

Msngr 10-05-05 08:32 PM

yes, i will kick my own ass.

this was not my idea (but i thought of it first, dammit).

trackstar has nothing to do with the benji race.

just talked to craig. they are coming, but maybe not for the benji race.

more to come. . .

I only ask because I don't want a bunch of guys kicking my ass cause I'm bringing a litespeed to the race. Honestly I'm not pretentious but it's the only bike I have that can even remotely go fast, my commuter and mtb are both heavy as hell.
Ass is feeling better, I'm more embarassed than anything.

Msngr 10-05-05 09:05 PM

did i miss something?

i'm normally up on the asses posts (pun intended, ask nona), but looking at your avatar makes me nervous, slvoid, yikes!

wangster 10-05-05 09:10 PM

Hey if you bring the litespeed, more power to ya, whatever makes you go fast. I'll do the poor man's race, the benji one's just too over the top for me. Who's gonna go to bikekill this year? miss last year, but I'm gonna go to this one since its pretty close to me. Always a fun time to watch people hurt themselves on crazy bikes.
