halloweekend, nyc

so halloweekend is happening, and blah blah

OK the real thing is that one of the races is the "put your money where your mouth is" race. this is a $100 entry fee race, winner takes all. i wanted to have a race be $200 entry, so this is a compromise for me.

so, who here is going to do it? i'm pretty sure i'll be donating 100 bucks to someone.

btw, for the rest of the weekend:
http://trackstarnyc.com/halloweekend/index.htm

and click on the red area to see the checkpoints for the sissy race.

It really is too bad that Boston is neither in nor around NY (we just established this elsewhere), because I could really get into the idea of giving away $100. Wow. How many people do you think will sign up?

Yoshi 10-04-05 04:42 PM

If I wasn't guaranteed to lose my money I'd consider entering. But yeah, that's not happening.

brunning 10-04-05 04:45 PM

la calavera covers a lot of ground.

Exactly. I do know one person who is gonna give it a shot.

Msngr 10-04-05 04:47 PM

i'd be surprised if more than 10 people signed up for the big money race. but i, too, am curious as to who'll show up for it.

missmercian 10-04-05 04:51 PM

i wonder if there's a prize for the ladies?

jrowe 10-04-05 04:53 PM

Doesn't the site say winner take all in three categories?

Well I'm assuming you will, right? I mean it wouldn't be much of a race if you weren't in it.

90%

i can't say that i've been 100% guaranteed that the checkpoints will be fair and the rules will be strictly enforced. both of which i consider to be sine qua non for a race like this. however, i have gotten a lot of good-natured pressure from the organizers to do this race.

so, 90%

boots 10-04-05 05:55 PM

if i were
a) faster
or
b) richer
i would race.

as it is, i'd like to race, even though i know i couldn't possibly win. i just can't afford to through away that much dough.

what's the deal with la calavera? alleycat, right? any hints as to roughly what the course will be?

Msngr 10-04-05 06:05 PM

ok, as a side bet, against any regular forum member (registered since august or earlier) i'll match an extra $100, first in among us take all.

or we could make it $20. it'd be a good way to soften the blow of $100 to the overall winner.

btw, missmercian, you in?

click on calavera or the red area of the above link to find out the checkpoints.

The checkpoints are up on trackstar's website: http://www.trackstarnyc.com

I'm thinking about doing a dry run over the weekend.

RedMenace 10-04-05 06:14 PM

la calavera is ass-long, covering three boroughs as well as a stop on roosevelt island. drink your Lactat-Pulver, boys and girls!

boots 10-04-05 06:27 PM

holy **** that's a long race

boots 10-04-05 06:30 PM

anyone know of a google maps hack that lets you plot of bunch of addresses?

FixednotBroken 10-04-05 06:31 PM

wangster 10-04-05 06:45 PM

why must money be involved... can't we just have a friendly race... I thought its about the love of cycling, not money...

Track Plague 10-04-05 06:54 PM

Could someone post a link to the checkpoints mapped out? Or PM me if desired.

Track Plague 10-04-05 07:57 PM

vivophobic 10-04-05 08:11 PM

why oh why must i be doomed to working taht whole ****ing weekend

im not gonna miss losing $100 on a race i cant win, but the calavera looks awesome...not to mention the bike kill that i usually cover as a medic

...and if you get hurt in the LES i may be picking you up...ou can tell me all about the race on the way to the hospital...but we dont want that...so ride safe....helmets?

wangster 10-04-05 08:19 PM

forgot about bikekill that usually a fun time, hmmm...

jrowe 10-04-05 08:26 PM

La Calavera might just merit another bus ride down to NY. Perhaps I can convince more than zero Boston people to join me this time.

wangster 10-04-05 08:29 PM

did anyone see this? I hope this isn't one of you, cuz it's pretty lame.
