any concensus on uptown versus downtown routes?

Msngr 10-27-05 10:18 PM

i'm going uptown first, though downtown has a few advantages, too, namely the 72nd street transverse and the "right" way on willoughby.

stachemaster 10-27-05 10:44 PM

but remember - park ave or flushing coming from/going to the manhattan bridge can be as fast, if not faster than willoughby since they are wider and you dont have to worry about tight intersections. i would take either one of those then cut up either nostrand or spencer. see you all at the checkpoint!

jyossarian 10-29-05 09:59 PM

So who won?

knifefight 10-29-05 10:53 PM

Alfred & Speedy men's 1 & 2
Dagga? Nona? women's
Chunk 666 (Paul, Ellen, Dan G.) & Team **** Off (Ken, Brandon, Brean) team 1 & 2

wangster 10-30-05 12:15 AM

evanyc 10-30-05 08:58 AM

whoa, that's intense.

s_9 10-30-05 10:09 AM

Msngr 10-30-05 10:38 AM

the story i heard is that he got jumped by an ex-roomie's ex-boyfriend while waiting on a bathroom line at a bar.

30 stitches.

Msngr 10-30-05 10:41 AM

in other debauchery news:

nona switched bikes with victor last night and then took off without her bag or keys or lock. her phone is not working.

if anyone knows where she is, please call or pm me. i'm going to go out right now to try to find her.

MadeInKIM 10-30-05 10:55 AM

Had a great time yesterday. Good riding with you all. Jrowe, thanks for visiting again.
I'm just remembering now the details of yesterday's events, but it's safe to say that this was one challenging & fun ride. 46 miles! And that's not even a full day's worth of work mileage..

no race pictures, unfortunately. both hands were busy. there certainly was enough coverage though. hope to see some footage soon.

slvoid 10-30-05 04:31 PM

Someone said lucas brunelle was run over?
Anyone validate this?

jrowe 10-30-05 04:31 PM

Yeah, that was a tough race, but it was loads of fun. I'd come back for another one.

Huge thanks to RedMenace for giving us a place to stay.

Jeff

He was hit by a car during the Benjamin's race. He's [relatively] okay, his bike is trashed. That's about all I know.

s_9 10-30-05 05:01 PM

Lucas got hit on Friday on Church & Chambers (approximately) during the Benjamins race. He went to NYU downtown & was OK enough to work a checkpoint for the Calavera race on Saturday. Another racer on friday, Chris, was with him when he got hit & decided that even a $100 race wasn't worth it to leave a friend who just got thrashed by a car. Chris stayed with him & went to the hospital. He then won Goldsprints the next day.

Felipe won the Benjamins race...fair & square....there were 7 participants. 6 guys & 1 girl. The course was a work-style pick & drop race with checkpoints at The Natural History Museum, The Met, 53rd btwn 6th & 7th, Trackstar, South Street Seaport, and Ground Zero. The South Street Seaport pickup was a Met dropoff. Finish line was Capone's in Williamsburg.

slvoid 10-30-05 05:03 PM

Sucks about the bike, it was such a nice bike too... but I'm glad he's ok, it's not worth it for $100...

Me, rithem, and stickyfoot. Edit--btw, it snowed yesterday here in Boston. I missed the season's first snow on account of this race. I suppose it was worth it.

stickyfoot 10-31-05 07:16 AM

I look much happier in that photo than I actually felt. Or maybe I was just stoked to be finished. Probably I'm the only guy on the planet who can get lost in Manhattan.

Ditto jrowedc's props to redmenace. It was very generous to let us stay. Thanks again.

There was another Boston group there. Anybody know how they fared in the race? I don't know if they were doing individual or team...
