Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I think that occasionally Dennis integrates a single speed here and there as part of a larger "one-gear" whole

Bikes: late 80's Pinarello Track, 1988 Proteus Yamaguchi road, 1970's Nishiki fg conversion (stolen and returned!)

Does anyone make a tensioner for a road bike with standard campy type road drop outs?

Regarding this bike: Check out the angle of the seat...you could just fall off the back.

There are a lot of less-than-desirable things going on here. The anodized tensioner reminds you how pink the frame is.

looks like ss, not fix, to me.
(tho i s'pose it could be a fix if the rider ALWAYS used the brakes to slow/stop, but that seems super-risky)

This bike *could* be hot, with some changes. Specifically, this bike needs carbon drops, aero levers, Zero Gravity brakes, a single-ring crank, and an SLR saddle. That Corima 4-spoke is ******** hot.

listen you young whippersnappers, back in the day all we HAD were powerbars, and they came wrapped in barbed wire that we had to chew off, and we were GRATEFUL for them, 'cause they were better than the chunks of tire and old muffler that occasional bounced into the hole in the road where we lived...

(i raced on wild berry powerbars for about two seasons and grew to love them, although our rep could never explain why that was the only flavor they ever sent us. we probably just weren't 'core enough).

Wouldn't it only be a problem if they tried to back pedal?

wouldn't poorly set up brakes only be a problem when you want to use them?

Ok, I'll give you the brakes, levers (campy record), crank, and saddle, but carbon drops on a quill stem, are you kidding me?

Thats blasphemous!

This pic makes me think - in theory, could a Rennen tensioner be used on a fix? I've got one on a trials bike, and I've landed on it *hard* on ledges and things, and it hasn't budged. Maybe I'll try it out on my v-drop MTB that I want to SS/fix.

You don't put loud and energy-draining parts on a fix or you will be ostracised. You could use something similar with a lil' cog like the derailleurs have.

Ugh. That bike just says "half-a$$ed" way too much. If I owned that bike, I would NOT have sent in pics to the FGG yet. Wait until you find the magic ratio, file the dropouts, something. Aero levers are a necessity. What are they, $30? Get a decent seat and drop the rear brake. Next thing you know this guy will put fenders on it.
