I ride a Jamis Komodo FX through the trails, and I really love the feel. I think this company definitely knows what they're doing, and I'd trust this bike to deliver the goods. Also, they seem to have fair prices most times. If this bike is overpriced, it's probably more associated with the "fixie boom" as of late, and not so much that Jamis makes overpriced bikes.

I'm really excited about this bike- The shop where Sam & I work sells Jamis, so I will test ride one as soon as they arrive.

yeah, I've definitely been considering one, but I think I'm gonna spend my money on the ss exile and just build me a fixed instead of buying one. They definitely look pretty sweet though.

my friend had a jamis dakota xc... small-tubed 631 hardtail... and geometry that they nailed to a T.

great bike... unfortunately, he bought it only on a whim and ended up selling it for chicken scratch

Does anyone know when the 2006 road line-up is *actually* going to be in stores?

"late november" is now, but I've heard as late as mid-dec. for in-store arrival.

Ira in Chi? Anyone? I've got a bike on order and my current one is about to die.

We just recived a full size range of Sputniks at my shop. Not sure if I can actually say where that is, per the "no advertising" clause, but if you pass through Wicker Park you should check 'em out. I'm building one up right now, should be ready to ride this afternoon.

that looks ok for a off the peg bike. decent spec (other than the ****ty cranks) and i like the fact it's round-tube 631. i prefer steeper angles though.

ira how are the dropouts in person?

They look nice. I would say cast, not cut out. They say "Maxway" on them, which is a popular high-end Taiwanese fabricator used by Ritchey, Surly, VooDoo, ect. They are sort of like the Surly dropouts, but slimmer and more elegant. There is a built-in chain tensioner screw, like ones made by Paul Components.

Boston bikes... and I'm assuming cambridge bikes here just got a couple in stock. I'll be there on saturday to borrow some tools and I'll take a couple of pics while I'm there if you like.

I do, but not at the shop. I won't be back here till next week, so maybe someone else can throw a few images up. I have to say I'm impressed by the frame. I wish it was availible as a frameset, it would be nicer than almost anything on mid-range market. The welds are better than my Soma and it's made of the same Reynolds 631 with better brake bridge, dropouts, ect. While it's nice as a stock bike, I can't wait to see one of these set up with high-end parts.

Sorry this picture is so bad, but it's the only camera I could find around the shop. You will want to get a new cog anyway The stock cog is kinda crap.

Anyone find better pics? It was really wet out last night and I didn't get to do a test ride . Also the 62 hasn't arrived yet, the biggest I have on hand is a 59.

really? I though it looked like a cheap wannabe version of the paul dropouts. would've been better if they stuck with a regular, well made dropout.

I can't imagine that they're any less functional. It's a good design. As I said before, they're made by a high-end Asian fabricator. Obviously not boutique like Paul, but just as good as any solid, prescision part on the market. Why would you assume they are not well made?
