They're all right - my roommate had a front wheel built up on her old conversion. Just vaery basic, very plain rim. I guarantee you'll end up with rim envy.
Are you rocking the Alex 400's on the Pista? Those look better than the CR18's.

the alexes have not stayed true well. even after hand retruing (lbs, not me).
i like plain-jane rims, as long as they're decent, but you're probably right. might as well build something nice i guess.

campagnolo montreals? those are nice, similar to the slightly aero FIRs and ambrosios, maybe not a polished finish, but definately something special. NOS comes up frequently and some places still have them in back rooms and so on. theres old campy boxier rims too that were non-machined i believe, and more than likely polished. i know they had dark anodized ones too, omega maybe?

Another vote for the MA3s. I have them on my FG Gitane, and they have been very sturdy under adverse conditions. A lot of cyclocross bikes rocque them. They have a nice understated, retro-ish look, too.
