why don't you start machining your own parts, then it'll be truely local and made in the usa. Slap your own logos on there and some made in usa stickers. Hey you can have a custom bike from top to bottom. That'd be a pretty awsome project, probably expensive though.

treechunk, paul stuff is made in chico, ca.

white industries stuff is made here. they make those eno single speed cranks... the have cogs in the works as well, but there are also the phil cogs.

does anyone know if woodman components are made here? most of their stuff is expensive enough for me to think so. soma frames are made here; does anyone know if their handle bars, etc. are made here? i know some reynolds stuff is made here and some easton?

Woodman stuff is from Taiwan. The newer American Classic stuff comes from there also.

You're also gonna run into problems with chain, tubes, tires, saddle and pedals. I think you might have to bend your own bars.

I think the discrepancy here is American Companies vs. Made in the USA components.

If you're just doing American Companies, then this is easier of course.

I like it when you look at a build, and it's obvious it wasn't simply a case of having The-Cash-To-Blow, but—more importantly—a result of a particular taste, meticulous nature, and godly patience. That’s when I appreciate the bike as a whole and not as a group or Really-Nice-Parts. having an american frame, I can’t go NJS or all-italian.

i can't think of ANY american made track cranks. profile bmx cranks are american made, but man alive those would be heavy for a track bike. not to mention weird looking.

Well SRAM is an American company, you could get a chain from them. It will be made overseas though.

Not true - Soma Fabrications of SF has their frames made in Taiwan.

I think I'd like for most of the build to be american-made. If it comes to it, american-by-design is a last resort.

Too true! I have an entirely Chinese-made bike and...well...it is the biggest piece of crap.
granted it only cost me less than 20 American, but still.

Also, if you're going to be putting on brakes you should look at Paul Components. I just
got a set of their cantilevers and they are amazing. So well crafted makes me want
to cry "OOhh saaaayy caaaannn yoooouuuuu seeeeee! Byyyyy thhhhehee..."

paul ***** is nice though. it's like they throw centuries of development down the drain and design components from a fresh perspective. at least aesthetically, it seems like aliens designed their stuff. I mean aliens from up there. and what's up with the clamp on their hubs?
