He's ok, so don't cry.

He was riding and a flock of pigeons took off close to him. One hit his rear wheel and he was distracted by it and either he hit a car or a car hit him. I dunno. He's ok. ****ed his front wheel.

I dunno the details. I was about to leave to meet him for PIZZA LUNCH.

He definitely doesn't need a wheel. He works at a bike shop and also lived in a co-op that has a million bikes in the basement.

Bikes: Lots. Mostly steel. Mostly heavy. Mostly geared, and very low, at that.

damn, don't even get to post my own story! haha.

I'm fine. My left leg is a little bit scrapey, but didn't even bleed. My front wheel... well, I'll let the pictures speak.

I think everything else is ok, but I haven't put a different wheel in to check the fork yet.

So the story is that I had just turned on to California from Cermack when a flock of pigeons took off right in front of me. I moved kinda to the left to try to avoid them. One of them totally hit my back wheel, and I didn't look to see what happened, although perhaps if I had I wouldn't have been hit. So I'm already at the left of the lane, I see a car about to turn, but there's other traffic, so I figure I'm ok to just pass them on the left. They tried to beat the traffic and just accelerated really fast. I turned inside their turn, so only my wheel was hit. My wheel was directly under their tire, my tire blew out from being scraped across the ground, and I fell over 'cuz my tire was stuck. I think their tire or perhaps their bumper scraped a bunch of hair and a little bit of skin off my right shin. My rim is broken in several places, the tire is toast, but my precious rear wheel is fine, and I think everything else is all good too.

Make's me wish I had someone here in town to ride with often. I mean, if I got hit, people would be like...

"ANOTHER ONE DOWN! +10 POINTS!"

*sigh* I want to move.

Glad to hear it's nothing truly serious.

I dunno, but if I have to replace it, that'll be the fourth fork in that frame. I think it might be cursed at the front.

I think my fork is bent. I took the wheel out (took a while, the QR got scraped and bent so bad it didn't want to let go) and put the fork on the ground and stuck a magnetic level on one of the blades. It's nowhere near level. Anybody got a better idea of how to check?

why not just put a good wheel in it and check against the HT?

doesn't your shop have alignment tools? if it wonky, and a steel fork, you should be able to pull it back, asusming it's not too bad.
