Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Sam, Glad to hear that you're awright.
On a bird related note....I recently had one fly BETWEEN my wheels while I was riding. It threaded the needle thru my spinning crank arms.I almost crashed trying to figure out what had just happened and if I was hallucinating or not. Kinda cool............

One of my friends had a pigeon dive into his front wheel and get chopped up a bit. I'm glad I didn't do that, although perhaps I should have slowed down to look at what happened. Maybe I wouldn't have gotten hit.

I second the "best wheel ever." That thing is toast.

Nice job walking away from that one. F-ing pigeons.

In light of the request for a hottest bike thread, there should also be a worst bike carnage thread.

the best part about the whole thing is that I got a brand new 105 hub in exchange for my dead wheel from a friend of mine who wants to use it as a teaching tool.

unfortunately the hub flange was scraped VERY badly on the ground. I wouldn't trust it.

I am just happy that there wasn't any of that red stuff on the ground. Sam or Pigeon!

Check this wheel out. Glad to know that treechunk wasn't the reason for this picture.

wow, that's a winner.

Here's another winner. My friend was rear-ended at 40 mph on his way to the Velodrome.

oh, and my fork WAS very slightly bent. My friend (who gave me the hub) has a Park Tools fork straightening tool (https://www.desperadocycles.com/Tools...nment_Tool.htm). It's all straight now.
