Bikes: Raleigh conversion (hours spent making it look like a Pista); Porter Track, Samson Track, Leto Roadie.

Word...Pace, the site that had the adaptor clamps, is in the UK, and with shipping and everything would probably cost more than the basic drilled fork from BikeWorks. Does anyone stock them domestically?

Um...and forgive me for not knowing this...can you transfer the headset from one fork to another, since the cups are pressed into the headtube? Or do you have to switch out headsets for different forks?

Hmm, it appears that those adapters are solely for mounting of cantis to Pace forks, which are fairly fat mountain forks.

ARGH. I'd really like to run a brake

I kinda feel like you could shim them to fit, or something. This is definitely not going to be pretty, but we're not winning any style points around here anyway.

Why the hell did you buy a track frame then?

I haven't bought a track bike, yet...but there are a lot of reasons I'm looking for one, including tighter geometry, true track ends, a perfect chainline...oh, and hey, a brake (or provision for a brake) doesn't compromise any of those!

pretty is the least of your concerns.
think of how much torque you're going to be exerting on those measly little clamps.

In my case?

1> Geometry
2> Lack of braze-ons
3> Tight clearances
4> Proper track dropouts.

Actually, my ideal frame would be a more like a path/6-day racer type frame, but that's probably more along the custom route than I'd like to go. The Flying Scot on eBay right now would be optimal, but i'm guessing it goes for around $800, less than I paid for my last 4 frames combined (two road, two track.)

Thank you for proving my point. Two of the four on your list are for looks only...
And you wrote "geometry" twice.

Yeah, sahae, you forgot:

5> So I can become a superserious ultracompetative velodromist and set the new Hour record,

which would legitimize your ownership of a track frame.

Bikes: Custom Raleigh track steel, Ron Kitching frame, given a budget single-speed job, Saracen Nzyme frame with most components upgraded

the pace clamps are pretty chunky as they are made for their xc forks. i was thinking of fabricating some for my ovalised fork legs on the same principle, but rigging them up to some kind of v brake booster arch to run a normal road brake. i'm running the idea past a frame builder sometime this week and will let you know how it goes...

From what I recall, the keirin setup was a lot like that, with four clamps holding the arch...please, let us know what you find out.

thats the inspiration, i thought it would be cheaper and take a lot less time than trying to locate one of the keirin style ones- plus they seem to attach to the fork legs with pretty shoddy jubilee clips- i respect my front teeth!

God forbid I should like the look of my frame. Just as running no brakes on a track frame is for looks only, no?

Is it not acceptable to say, like the look of a track bike? Or should I be wearing a hairshirt and riding a ****box conversion as penance?

Oh, and as for lack of braze-ons, having munched my knee on the downtube shifter braze-ons while avoiding a car, I'm not feeling like wanting them off the bike is entirely fashiony. But please, feel free to judge me. It's cool.

This is ridiculous. It's a Cinelli track bike converted to geared. ******** shoot me.

Anyway, look at what they did for a rear brake!

Insane. As for the matter at hand, the fork seems to have cantilever bosses brazed on (or it's a road fork). So, no progress, just a diversion.

I know it's crazy talk, but why not just pick up a cyclocross fork and a spare crown race?

This (or the hot drum brake featured at e-framebank.com) are the best options in my book. Either way you'll be needing another part (fork or wheel) to swap out with the brake.
