This is my beater Schwinn Sprint I found in the trash.
I'll post a better picture when I get home.
I used to use Chimay corks for bar plugs (including the metal Champagne-style cap thing), but people would always steal them.

This picture is almost a year old, the bike looks almost nothing like this anymore.
I chopped the stock, Deda Track drops that came on it, which gave the bullhorns a real nice, semi-circle shape. Very comfortable.

Ok ... loose the gears str8flexed. You are surrounded. Give up and you will have a fair trail!!
Your horns looked familiar, I chopped mine the same way. I have a schwinn with the same geometry

I actually just removed the front derailleur and other larger gear last night at 2 a.m.
And...my kickstand (finally!). Now my bike is a lot lighter, but still heavy.
I am still considering whether I should remove the rear derailleur and make it a single speed/fixie, b/c I'm still not quite sure what kind of resistance (gear ratio) I would ultimately like. I just got into biking.

Inner ring 42 tooth count ...
Are you young and strong ... or at least well on your way to get strong?
Go first with a 16 tooth cog 3/32nds of an inch wide. Keep both brakes for a while.
That is what I did and I cannot complain .... love the thing. The horns will help you position your body for enhanced climbing, so the lack of gear will not be as critical.
Local/friendly bike shop can do it for you, or do it yourself ... you gonna love it.
While you are at it, get yourself some MTB shoes and pedals. Safety and efficiency in one package.

I don't keep expensive wall art and the street is a dirty, rough place. But you'll be happy to know that it's presently looking quite pristine in its new, shiny pearl white paintjob.

some super banged up Nitto's that got the flop 'n chop. Definetly the best bars I've ridden so far.
