I think communication and publicity are key, but alot of the smaller races are low key...but in general its not the few who make it out, its the many who do not.
We need to show the "others" that we are cool and accepting people and are willing to give anyone a chance, at least thats been my experience with everyone i have met. Most were probably scared off during the posenger bashing era.

Silly brainstorm thing:
Why not build a collapsable/stackable conversion for an existing track? Would still be a ***** to move around, but far less so than a freestanding velodrome.
I mean, cities are building skateparks now. Seems like the cost would be in that range.

skateparks serve more of purpose then velodrome would. A skate park keeps the curbs from getting wax build up and prevent chips, it also keeps a skateboard from flying at a suits achilis. When track bikes become a nuisance in the public eye, maybe they will build us a velodrome.

Well, I don't think its a nuisance thing, I think its a popularity thing. Once we get enough kids (well, kids whose parents are property-owners) on brakeless fixies zipping around (pretty much inevitable at this point), communities will be able to find money for it. I mean, skateboarding went from nonexistent to semi-criminal to ****ing Dogs of Lordtown level saturation in what, thirty years? We've got over a century of history established.
A fullout velodrome would be a big sell, land would have to be bought/insured/whatever, which is why I'm wondering, has anyone (not here, necessarily) even thought about costs for a conversion?
Not saying it'll happen anytime soon, but give it a few years, who knows.
edit: Yeah, a running track conversion kit, basically.

I'll chip in $100 (probably more) to anyone rebuilding the human rollercoaster figure eight thingee.
Actually, does anyone know if the materials for the rollercoaster are in storage anywhere? If so it'd be alot cheaper.
