nashbar ships USPS. so you're on the hook for at least $5 in brokerage + GST (maybe PST too, depending on your province)
built wheels technically carry a 6.5% duty, but you probably won't get charged that.
"bike parts" are duty-free.
i have yet to be charged duty on bike parts from the states, including a couple of wheelsets.

Yeah, same here. No duty, just gst and pst up, plus customs' exchange rate, which is a bit jacked like credit card rates.

Mine took a full 4 weeks though, and if you get other stuff with them, you may have to pay taxes on the same stuff twice and get reimbursed, as Nashbar will put the full invoice (for contents of all boxes) on the first box, and then the separate contents of each box on following ones - Cost me a 60 bucks twice, but got the reimbursement from customs pretty quickly.

What'd you get charged for shipping to Canada btw? I got totally hosed, but bought two wheelsets and some other small stuff that ended up requiring a third box.

I think it was $21 american, and it didnt seem too much, and plus i dont order much stuff of the internet anyways.

k3nho 12-02-05 07:11 PM

just a heads up, the coupon code for 20% off (HOLI20)
expires Dec 5th.

I just got my wheels the other day. Compared to the wheelset that i have know they look great. They bearings are nice and smooth. There is no logos except for the mavic logo on the rims. They do not come with a lockring as described in the catalog. that must be ordered seperatley. I thought that both sides of the hub would be threaded for a track cog and lockring. It looks like one side is for fixed and the other side is for a singlespeed freewheel? I guess you could run a track cog on it but w/o a lockring. The other thing that i noticed was that the rim has a groove in the middle of the brake surface. Maybe it improves braking? I have to pickup a rear cog and lockring before i can test them out. I hope the snow melts by this weekend

teadoggg 12-09-05 10:09 AM

That groove in the rim is a brake wear indicator. some rims have them so you know when it's time to replace the rims.

Check your "order status" on their page...I think that they're just out of lockrings, so they'll be coming, if they ever get 'em. Y'know, who cares.

It's not fixed/fixed? Really? ****.

Well, I checked, the listing says flip-flop. Am I crazy, or did it used to say fixed/fixed?

MLPROJECT 12-09-05 10:24 AM

are there any current coupon codes? has the HOLI20 expired for sure?

i didn't think i was gonna have the dosh to get these, but now i do...

I think it did say fixed/fixed

norcostorm 12-09-05 01:33 PM

i used live chat, and talked to someone, and they specifically told me it was fixed/fixed, because the description wasnt that clear. They also told me it came with a steel lockring, but i dont know if that is the case.

teadoggg 12-09-05 01:43 PM

mine is fixed/fixed and came with two steel lockrings.

chicagoamdream 12-09-05 01:45 PM

[SEINFELD]"Nashbar!"[/SEINFELD]

Now I really wonder what I'll get. At the price, I might complain, but I won't send it back or anything. TD, were they Shimano (I presume DA) lockrings? When I went and checked my order summary, it had "SHIMANO LOCKRING" in the summary, although I didn't order one. Who knows. I will report back.

Didn't you just buy the nashbar track hubs? The wheelset is not a nashbar branded hub so they are probably different.

ahhh! nice catch! you may be right. I got the track hubs seperatly. I beat the **** out of them on a daily basis (potholes, curbs, bouncing off taxis, saltysnow) and they're still performing admirably.

shants 12-09-05 01:57 PM

man, nashbar just lost my order. well, usps did, it seems. it has happened before with another nashbar order, too. i have no idea. there must be someone who handles my mail that wants bike stuff, because none of my other packages have problems.

bingo!

nashbar hub != Formula
IRO == Formula
nashbar == novatec/Joytech

i'm pretty sure nashbar are not equal to formula. i think this has been debunked here.

that's what I said

teadoggg 12-09-05 03:19 PM

ahhh, so that's what != means.

baxtefer 12-09-05 03:22 PM

sorry, computer nerd

k3nho 12-09-05 04:17 PM

code for 10% off your entire order until 1/2/06: W210

i got the formula/mavic wheelset- no lockring included, fixed/free, 100% trued out of the box. still happy with it, but they owe me a lockring! took about a week from Ohio to California.

as for rear axle spacing (i asked about it earlier), it comes with a long axle like iro's hubs do. plenty of room to respace to 126 or maybe 130mm.

pardon my ignorance, but what does one typically respace with? washers?

baxtefer 12-09-05 05:15 PM

axle spacers :D - which are essentially fat washers.
between the locknuts.

There's also a code for 99 cent shipping. Ship99
you'll sill have to pay the oversize charge.
no idea if you can use it in conjunction with the 10% off.

dolface 12-09-05 05:15 PM

axle spacers. like washers, but often aluminum, and come in different thicknesses

sr20det 12-12-05 05:27 PM

ah crudders,
I wanted to go order the discount nashbar wheelset w/ 99 cent shipping but its gone :'(
Nowhere to be found on their site... sigh.

Mueslix 12-12-05 08:08 PM

I just got mine. Perfect for my winter bike. My usual ride has a set of MA3's and these seem even sturdier. I was all set to put it together when I realized my tires, tubes, etc. must be in another box. I hope the lock ring is in there, too.

brooklyn 12-12-05 09:42 PM

i installed my wheels yesterday and they are super smooth to ride. I had some concerns about the spacing since my frame measured at 126mm. to my suprise there was more than enough room. In fact the axle sticks out on both sides. I will try to take some pics tomorrow.

beppe 12-12-05 10:30 PM

Just wanted everyone to know that the wheelset is gone, for now.

chicagoamdream 12-12-05 10:42 PM

Did anyone get a lockring with their order?
