Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

roy orbison - greatest hits [it's roy orbison. pretty woman. running scared. working for the man. it's a good cd.]

new ethic - *summer demo 98* [one of the finest hardcore band of the late 90's. the best shows. i miss hardcore.]

the denver gentlemen - introducing... [strange carnival/french/creepy music. David Eugene Edwards was in this band when it started. accordians, trombones. tack piano. rickety drums. everyone should hear this. the second cd (self/titled) has a different feel to it. but it's good as well.]

better than a thousand - just one. [ray cappo hardcore. i like it better than YOT and way better than that crappy shelter band. if anyone has their other album...let me know. i can't find it anywhere.]

Crestfallen - Streaks of Terror From Virginia. Music that is remniscent of what was going on in Virginia at the time. Sound a bit like pg.99, I guess. Totally awesome. Totally punk. Lots of screaming and dischordance. Possibly screamo.
(the) Melvins - (a) Senile Animal Really, this should need no explanation. It's the Melvins. They went into the studio with Big Business and this is what came out. It's slow, it's heavy, it's loud. Two drummers. Two bassists. One Buzz.

deep wound! hell yeah! have you heard this other band of similar style/era...either anti-social or dis-social, i can't recall which.

and you can't ****ing forget siege....awwwww yeah!

Grails - Black Tar Prophecies II I don't know... Grails started off doing the whole GY!BE, EITS, etc... thing. This album is a lot different. Sounding a little middle eastern, a little indian... drony, spaced out, and totally stoned. There's even a banjo. Live, this band is one of the tightest I've ever seen. Highly recommended.

Ampere/Das Oath - Split Tour LP Two awesome bands covering a bunch of awesome songs. Ampere's DRI and Bad Brains cover are tons of fun. Das Oath covers Nirvana and the results are great.

oh, and if everyone is going to be giving a short blurb about the artists/albums, i think people should also say whether they're listening to these albums while riding or other (in their room/between classes/whatever). this way people can get an idea of what others consider good riding music.

just a thought.

I usually list what I am listening to as I post to give you an idea. I don't listen to music when I ride.

a lot of people i know aren't comfortable with listening to music while they ride because they're afraid they won't hear traffic. but whatever, i'm all about listening to music while i'm riding, in or out of traffic.

past 2 days, been rocking out to some iron maiden on my rides. metal + biking = get pumped.

I'm all about strapping a ghetto blaster on a bike, but the only time I've felt comfortable riding with headphones on is at night.

from now on, during (for example) thursday night rides (in boston) someone should have to bring a ghetto blaster, so the group has theme music while riding, and gives them something to be psyched on.

Clearly you need to rock "tell me when to go" [e-40] so you can gas break, gas break and ghost ride the whip, ghost ride the whip, then put ya stunna shadez on.
