wow, freezing rain... I don't think I'll ride in freezing rain either cuz I don't want to leave my bike out in that weather. hmmm... looks like it'll be a 3 day weekend.

the chaos of a transit strike is appealing, though. they probably won't come up with a solution by the deadline and will delay the decision until after the holiday is my guess. the courts are good at things like that.

Yeah, but NY is the unusual major city where most people actually don't have cars. MTA transit strike = get to walkin'.

MTA strike including the subway? at least your subway runs 24 hours a day, here in DC it closes around midnight, stupid to say the least.

Hmm - I wonder if a bunch more people will be taking taxis? Those can't get much worse out there, can they?

Wha!? Too many "This Bike is a Pipe Bomb" stickers going around the city?

I've never had anyone say anything to me about a bike at work. One office had an inside bike rack. My current job I just walk it right up and it lives in my cube. At my other job, a recording studio, we have a utility closet for employee and client bikes. But it's a recording studio, so normal office rules don't really apply.

Best of luck!

yes its far too cold for a transit strike to encourage commuting by bike. maybe we should get TA to lobby for a tranist strike/bike to work day in the summer.

So, Boots, it looks like if there is a transit strike on Friday we look forward to:
No buses (great! considering the forecast)
More commuters looking for places to park their bikes if they dare ride in less than ideal conditions.
More flagrant jay walking.
More sideswiping cabbies.
Less work cos nobody will be at work. Or more because our own coworkers won't show up just like last Friday.
More?

NPR/WNYC's first suggestion in case of a transit strike was "ride a bike"

followed by "walk", and "carpool with a friend"

I'm secretly getting excited about a bike commute tomorrow.

From the NYT:

"After a full day of negotiations, the president of the transit workers union said this afternoon that talks have stalled, increasing the likelihood of a strike that would shut down the nation's largest transportation system as early as midnight tonight."

From their picture archive, the 1980 strike:

Oh man. If cats are going to have to walk their bikes up the bridge, it's going to drive me NUTS. But I guess it'll be kind of fun. We shall see.

the strike should be postponed until noon tomorrow... how else will the general populace get out to Howard's rally? they need to think this through, if they wanna score in the court of public opinion.

sadly, yes. we still got some busses in some areas, that run late, but good luck trying to figure out which ones and where they go spur of the moment.

Anybody know where online would have the most up-to-minute news on this? No TV.
