Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? How many miles a day

How many miles a day do you ride? or if you dont ride everyday, how many a week?

I average about 40miles a week, I'm still trying to get back in shape after not riding for 4 years. I plan on going to golden gate park this sunday.

i'm guessing 5-15 a week on average, depends if i am able to commute or not; last week was over 75.

Zero lately, ifn you don't count the 4 miles I rode to the music store and liquor store lastnight.

But, I have been almost averaging a 6-pack a night this week.

25 min to 40 or 50 on a big week probably. And that's not counting the non-fixed bikes which in the last 4 months or so account for approximately 0% of that riding time.

i usually only ride a few miles a day to commute to school/go to friends' places in the fan, unless i'm riding to my friend's place that is 6 miles from here, or barnes and noble (where i used to work) which is about five. those rides are really intense because they're through high traffic areas. i wish richmond had some places to ride long distances. i'm working on it though. since i got this bike at the beginning of december i've already dropped somewhere around 40 miles into it i think.

I do anywhere between 4-12 a day depending on how many times I go between work and home.... usually its 8 for a day..~40/week I dont ride much on the weekends now that its crappy out but in the summer time I would sometimes go for a 15-20 mile ride on the weekend

I ride 4 or 5 times a week... 50 - 75 miles. I tend to ride more and longer when it's not so cold.

My commute is 14 miles round trip. I ride pretty much every day rain or shine. Add weekend riding to that and it's probably 90-100 miles a week for me in the winter. I have been commuting on a non-fixed bike lately because it's just been nasty out and my knees hate the cold as it is.

Before December with its dreary weather, snow-slicked streets and days of working doubles as a server in a French restaurant, I was putting 150-200 miles a week on my legs, both fixed and geared.

So far, my December tally is around 150 miles total.

Boo.

the commute is 60 miles a week.

in nicer weather, i'm bound to add another 50 miles to that. in less-nice weather, i may only add 10. in terrible weather, i may only commute on bike 2 or 3 days out of the week.

Bikes: IRO Jamie Roy (fixed-gear commuter), Gary Fisher Rig 29er SS, Trek Madone 5.5, Specialized Allez Comp, Marin Mt. Vision Pro, Specialized M2 Hardtail, beater Nishiki fixed-gear conversion, Gary Fisher Rig 29er SS

Fixed or otherwise?

I commute on the fixed-gear 30 mi. r/t. I try to do that 2 - 3x/week (So far, only one this week. Tomorrow will make 2). So that's 60 - 90 fixed-gear commute miles per week. Throw in another 5 - 10 miles over the course of the week for grocery runs and such, and I'm looking at anywhere from 65 to 100 miles/week fixed.

If you're talking total mileage then there's more.

Weekends lately have consisted of long days on the geared road bike. Usually 4 - 6 hours on Saturday (70 - 100 mi.), and nearly as long on Sunday (60 - 80 mi. or considerably less mileage, but the same saddle-time if Sunday's ride is off-road).

Toss in a Wed. night mountain bike ride of 20 miles or so (not fixed, but singlespeed at least), and it adds up to somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 mi./week +/- 20 mi.. At least that's been the routine lately. October was another story entirely. End-of-season break went on a bit longer than planned. Probably only got 100 miles in during the *month* of October...
