Anything good in Amsterdam?

I'm going to Amsterdam for a week and wondered if anyone has any recs for track/fixie things to check out there? I doubt it, but I'd thought I'd ask.

Using the awesome bike forum's search, there may be one bike shop with track stuff:
RIH
150 westerstraat (jordaan district)
amsterdam

Anyone know if its open still?

Also if anyone has general recs for places to go etc that would be grand.

fixedpip,

yah there is some great stuff in Amsterdam.
As you mentioned there is RIH. The original Bustraan brothers are long
gone however Mr Van der Kaay is running the shop and still building
both road an track frames.
There is Zieleman (I don't know the address) a small builder
who retired in the late 80's but who's son in law runs the shop.
Nice road and track frames, very unusual here.
Other marques you might want to look into are
de Reus, Jan Jannsen (not sure who builds his frames).
There are a few BF members from the Netherlands,
Batavus is one as is s70rguy (but he is out of town for a while).

I own an RIH and de Reus and desperately want a Zieleman.

This isn't fixie related but I recommend stopping by the Fiets Frame Gallery - sort of a bike shop slash art gallery. Worth checking out anyway, and its in a cool neighborhood, and close to the Van Gogh museum and other attractions. They have a cool border collie too... One of Amsterdam's most highly rated vegetarian restaurants is right across the street too if you're into that. https://www.framefietsgallery.nl/

I was in Amsterdam a few months ago. The weather happened to be perfect. There seems to be an unusually high population of beautiful women there, all riding bikes of course. ...if you're into that.

Best wishes,
Dr. Hans.

i stopped by the RIH shop last time i was there. he didn't have any used frames, and new ones start at 1300 euros. i saw a few older RIH frames being ridden around.

the flea markets are a great place to pick up cheap blinkies and reasonably priced chains/locks.

Thanks for all the information.

Just got back and it was great. Loved Amsterdam although its a lot quieter than I expected at this time of year.

Only saw one fixie while I was there. Very messenger looking guy powering down the side of a canal; nearly everyone else was on some variation of the Dutch one/three speed. However, its grand to see so many people biking around and I loved all the utility bikes. Whole families being moved by bicycle as well as all kinds of goods. Its wonderful.

Stopped by the Frame Fiets gallery, pretty interesting though obviously geared towards the Dutch style of bikes. Tried going to RIH but it was closed for the day.

Found a lot of good second hand bike jerseys at the Market along the Amstel (forget the name of the market) but sadly found little else track/fixed anywhere

I'd recommend:

In de Wildeman (Kolksteeg 3) - has about 200 beers on tap/bottle including Anchor Steam (decent San Francisco beer)
Cafe The Minds - somewhere along Spuistraat. About the only punk bar we could find. (Heard good things about a bar called De Diepte, but it was closed while we were there).
Maoz Falafel - super cheap chain of Falafel fast food. About 3-4 euros for a ton of falafel and toppings. Kept my girlfriend going most days.
