good turn out for this thing. I only went to 1 of the bars - I had a pretty rough time - I hit a car within 100 feet of the start, got a flat in the rain, and val and I were almost smashed between two cars when some ****ing tow-truck driver decided to back up, in heavy traffic, on clark ave. to put a car into a space.

oh well. I got all my ****ups out of my system in time for the Tour da Chicago next week.

gregg 01-02-06 06:05 PM

Nat said about 30 people showed up, good times. I (also) headed out a few minutes early, after Twisted Spoke to defrost and get some eats.

Nice meeting people, I saw teadogg by the side of the road and should have stopped to ask if he needed a hand but I was craving alcohol.

Thanks for putting the ride together! My buddy had two aces when I left, I'm calling him to win.

Don't worry, I was there, you probably didn't see me. I may have been taunting the dogs in that house we were in front of.

I agree it was nice to meet/re-see people. I certainly hope someone got a picture of SR so all can share in his "outfit" glory.

Hopefully you're all planning on coming out for stage 1 of the tour on the 8th.

gregg 01-02-06 06:54 PM

Ok, word is 3 of a kind beat his two aces.

Anyone have a link to the TDC stage 1 flyer?

No suprise that Tim won the "Best Dressed" award, which equalled an NOS Motobecane cap. Very green.

Haven't figured out how much we raised yet (and I'm out the door, trying to eat some jambalaya with giboyeux), but as Gregg mentioned, I think we started out thirtystrong, and probably ended at about twenty. Not bad.

I got a flat on Barry and Halsted, so thanks to Nate for assisting with a pump (winner of a Selle Italia cap).

Sorry I'm not remembering names too well, but the grand prize of a new-batch Phil cog (18t) and a matching t-shirt went to the man with three of a kind (I think three nines?). No matches, high of 8 won the illustrious Raleigh Banana cap for the Worst Hand award.

Sorry about the bad luck, Tristan/Val...glad you made it out. Naz, hope you're feeling better. Gregg: good to meet you! See you soon.

Well, it seems like it was a good time. I wish that staying the week would have been an option for me, but I kinda need to work this week. Also, I feel that spending a week in Chicago probably would end up being more expensive than just traveling there twice...I don't know, just a feeling.

I am totally stoked about winning worst hand! It was fun riding around in the rain for a few hours. I only hope that I stayed close enough to SR to absorb some of his fashion sense.

salome 01-02-06 09:56 PM

hey naz, did you get any other decent shots?

I believe so - haven't had time yet to go through and process them. Tomorrow for sure.

I thought people needed to see Tim in his glory though...

Technohippy 01-02-06 10:34 PM

Yea, definitely good times.

The weather kinda sucked but wasn't really a factor...especially after maybe 2 beers.

Nice to finally meet some of the names on here and re-meet some people. Lots of familiar faces actaully. It's amazing the close circles we online bikers run in.

Be cool. Stay warm!

cardstock 01-02-06 10:57 PM

yeah, i second all that has been said. Really, just a fun relaxing ride, with lots of high fives and cheers and familiar smiling faces. Looking foward to seeing everyone next weekend

I was at Filter since 8AM, waiting for you! Sorry I missed out.
I started putting the new ride together and didn't finish in time to make the race.

After I remove my nuts from your chin.

snapp.

chicagoamdream 01-05-06 04:30 PM

Update: so, we must've started out with 25 riders, so we raised $75 for the BMEF, and $75 for The Big Fix. Not too bad for an afternoon of riding, drinking, and fixing flats.

Which means I've got quite a few leftover spokecards. Maybe I should eBay 'em as part of a DIY bike hipster kit?

$0.00/Gal 01-05-06 04:38 PM

You can bring me one tomorrow night if you want.

chicagoamdream 01-05-06 04:38 PM

I wish tomorrow night had its own spokecard.
