In Moscow night. 1.27. Good night.

Happy New Year!!!

Shiznaz 12-30-05 04:29 PM

you must commence a very rigid search for unequivocably enthused bicycle persons. This will be the overture to a new era of russian track biking, and all the girls will want to be carnal with you.

Sorry, I just watched Everything is Illuminated today and I adore Russian accents. Welcome to the forums, Здравствуйте!

Spider-man, great rationalization for two brakes: from his FGG: "I am running two brakes on it because I like to carry baguettes nestled atop the hoods and held in place by the cables."

Thanks. I think so, too.

In my broken Russian:

С Новым Годом!

Я не когда не слышал про “Atom.” Но, если качество хорошое и части настоящие, то 400$ являетса прекрастной ценой. В Америке 400$ только купит самый дешовый велосипед. Профециональные велосипеды дла велодрома обычно стоят вольше чем 1000$. Если очень нравитса, то купи! Если не когда не был http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed/index.htm, то пойди и почитай.

In English:

Happy New Year!

I've never heard of "Atom." However, if the quality is good and the parts are decent $400 is an excellent price. In America, $400 will generally only buy cheap track bikes. Professional track bikes will usually cost over $1000. If you really like it, then buy it! If you've never been there before, check out http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed/index.htm.

Man i'd buy that. What is that $400 anyways.

Bikeophile 12-31-05 05:31 PM

Hey Vova!

From the parts description you've given the Atom looks very much like a basic FUJI Track bike. There is nothing wrong with that, especially the price, but honestly I DIG your bike! If there is nothing wrong with it, stick with that man!

**EDIT**
As per the post below from BOSTONTREVOR. Bikeophile had his head very far up his own butt while making the original comments comparing the ATOM and the FUJI. These bikes have 2 wheels and are track bikes...THAT they have in common, but not much else :) ***

But hey I know all about the need for more bikes...Heck I have a dozen frames in my 800 square foot condo right now and my track bike is in the bedroom beside my dresser!

Anyways, ride safe and Happy New Year!!
Rob

bostontrevor 12-31-05 06:03 PM

The Fuji track is steel, not aluminum, features a 1" threaded headset, not a 1-1/8 internal threadless, and has a round not diamond top tube... just starters.

Oh, the fork is curved, not straight bladed, and has fender eyelets.

edit: and the rear bridge is peaked and both front and rear are drilled for brakes.

Bikeophile 12-31-05 06:18 PM

Ok so the drugs I'm on must have kicked just before I posted!

I guess the fact that all of the parts are proprietory or "no name" as well as the paint job reminded me of the Fuji bikes is all.

Thanks for the slap Trevor! I needed that :)

bostontrevor 12-31-05 06:23 PM

I have to admit. At first blush, I was like, hey, that's a rebadged Fuji for exactly the same reason. The colors and style of the paint are spot on for the red Track.

humancongereel 12-31-05 07:07 PM

yeah, that's what i thought about it, too.

Vova 12-31-05 08:24 PM

It not the most good bike. It's very cheap bike for Russia.
Our prices = yours prices.

I want good track bike (like Colnago or Bianchi Pista - my dream). But it's impossible in my country.

By the way.
Atom gearing: 48x14
My gearing 44x13 - normal for me.

Vova 01-05-06 08:18 PM

Hi!!!

Some fotos.
It's not Moscow. It's Sergiev Posad.
We have passed 123 km for 6 hours from Sergiev Posad to Moscow.
I went on my fix. They tired, i'm not.

They ask: ''Why you ride on this freak bike? It's silly."
I say: "Because I love it!!!" How to explain it to them?
They tried to ride on my bike on the small area. But it's nothing for understanding.
Important!!! No brakes!!! They are afraid of it!!!
-One gear? "Ok!"
-Fexed gear? "If you want, it's your problem."
-No brakes? "You are crazy!!! How you brake? Never!!!"

Cool SANTINI jersey?

AfterThisNap 01-05-06 08:25 PM

word. I like the polka-dot tour jersey.

Serendipper 01-05-06 08:41 PM

That is awesome.

You are, like so far ahead of the game, with pink dots,a fixed gear, and a girl. Teadogg excluded, you are in front of the pack, my friend.

*golf clap*

humancongereel 01-05-06 09:45 PM

you're mostly right, seren. bet someone posts a "who's getting some?" thread now.

vova, those photos are nice. you will be a pioneer of fixed gear in russia. we salute you.

noriel 01-05-06 10:07 PM

I smell road trip! Time to get a frame with S & S couplings so I don't have to worry about the bike! This is going to be great -- it's going to be like watching the big bang. Great pics.

jyossarian 01-05-06 10:39 PM

There's some beautiful churches in Sergiev Posad. Nice bike too! Congrats on starting the trend.

Dear Vova,
My name is Danila. I was born in Moscow. I now live in New Jersey and go to school. The last time I was in Russia i dont remeber seeing any fixed gear bikes. You are probably right to think that you maybe the only fixed gear on the streets in Moscow. I still have relatives in Moscow so hopefully when i go back i will bring my "crazy" bike and we can rip around the streets together. The Atom looks like a great deal to me by the way. Track bikes are much much more expensive here for anything thats crap. Take care.

danila

PS hopefully i can figure out how to type russian so you dont have to translate...

Flippin Sweet 01-06-06 12:46 PM

Everybody! Trip to Russia!

giboyeux 01-06-06 12:54 PM

In Soviet Russia, bike rides YOU!

...hi Vova. You, your bike, and Russia are all pretty sweet. Welcome.
