Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

How soon till it sets?

How long before one usually regains lifting strength?
mine pulled the shoulders back, pulling the bones so they overlapped less while they healed since mine wouldn't set. i was also in a sling to support my arm and take the arm's weight off of my shoulder, but it didn't pull in towards my chest. if i look in the mirror now without a shirt on you can notice a small lateral difference in my shoulders away from my neck and the pointy bump has since smoothed itself out.

if i remember right, i was out of the sling and stuff after a week, but didn't put it through much stress for maybe a month. then i was back out skating.

i broke mine like 3-4 years ago while skiing (caught an edge, inverted, landed head and shoudler and broke it in two places). I'm not saying i couldn't ride it after 2 months, but i didnt do anything for quite some time to be sure. I sat out my whole ski race season and had monthly x-rays to ensure that it was healing and to monitor the progress. Up to a year later i still experienced pain while carrying a good load in my bag.

*edit* also as far as a sling goes, I had a sling and one of those "backpack" braces that MLProject was talking about. The sling was there to limit the motion of the arm and the brace was there to keep my shoulders back.
