I don't think its a good idea, not because you say its communistic, which I don't think it is. This won't be a forum if its just a reference page with no actual interaction between members. The noobs make it interesting sometimes, if not funny at least.

OP: I am anti-Newbie sticky and always will be.

1) If Newbies can't find and use the search function, why does anyone believe they will find the Nobie sticky.

2)I'm so tired of all the whining about repetitive or off-topic threads. If you aren't interested in a thread, then ignore it. No one forces you to click it, read it and then post some *****y comment. Titles are usually pretty good indicators of the threads subject. If it doesn't interest you, move on.

3) There are very few things that have not been already covered on here. Why single out the newbie's repeated questions? By this logic, we might as well just shut this place down and turn it into an archive of info.

i think you missed my point, communism at no point would call for the horrors associated with it, they stem from the other variables, a violent dictatorship being a large part of what you're talking about

A resource sticky is a better idea then one all knowing outline. People could post there experiences with fixies and the preferences.

sorry, i was reacting to your "behind the wall" metaphor. i've just been reading "Faust's Metropolis: A History of Berlin" by Alexandra Richie so your statement prompted a quick reaction. I understand there were Trotsky and so called other dissidents/heros/theorists. As long as they dole out fixies at the RadFahrtMarkdt maybe it might not be all bad!

Pistaboy, where's the photo!?

You guys have obviously never met Vova, apparently the only FG rider in post-Soviet Russia. Ain't gonna happen. Besides, I live the kustom kulture, I would not thrive very well in a cookie-cutter culture, no matter how smurfy. Read up on chaotic social theory, a little unpredictability isn't so bad. It actually lends itself to creative progress and innovation.

A newbie sticky is a terrible idea. Just another thread for people to dump trash in as time goes on, just like this one.

If is created and it gets stickied, it should also be locked. Good luck with that; it is highly dubious that the mods want to spend the extra time playing gatekeeper to a thread in this place.

I say let people search. If they cannot figure out how to use a search feature on a website, they should give up on using a computer altogether.

They did find this place, right? Well, what is stopping them from looking a bit more for the informative threads here?

What about the People's Republic of China? The Communist Party has ruled the PRC
for about 85 years and some might say pretty well especially in recent times after
a few bumps in the road (understatement of the century I know).

Besides the new laoshan velodrome is being built as we speak in preperations
for the '08 olympic & paralympic games. It will be done in '07 and is going to
be a PERMANENT indoor facility open to the public. I am so excited.

see the whole idea of social chaotic is more naive than anything and somewhat arogant, there's a whole line of economic systems that develope into eachother, none are permanently sustaining, look at capitalism, it can only stay around in the US for so much longer, the only was to have a long term sucessful communist society would be to have no interaction with a capitalist system, in an international market communist nations could only trade with other communist nations, also you need to limit social interactions, this is why places like china have been over the top about things like immigration, the free flow of information, and an interactive market, they weren't a pure communism but they were trying to maintain isolation for the sake of preserving thier fragile societal structure

China isn't exactly a good example of communism working, you know.

On topic: we should just make a noob sticky that says:

-Read around at sheldonbrown.com
-Use the search function
-If the above two fail, then see if there are threads appropriate for your question. If there aren't, then start one.

Ha Ha good point. I guess that's like saying Coke is "America's favorite soft drink since the 19th century" Started in the 19th century, but not as popular.

As for the '08 games: I will definitely be there.

Bikes: Pake fixie. Klein Reve (for sale, https://www.theveer.net/gordons_klein)

The search function can be unwieldy. I'm curious about bullhorns. I just searched titles for "bullhorns" and found lots of threads about how to build them and where to buy them. Maybe I'm dense, but I couldn't find much on why I would want them. Better control, more efficient, easier to do tricks? A "newbie" thread with well chosen topics could be useful.

I think that a n00b sticky with external links only would be helpful, as there are so many good resources availible.
