Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Bicycle: the History

I learned a lot about High Wheelers.
Pretty thorough about all bikes though from 1700's to 2004.

For some reason I haven't been reading much... which is odd because I ****ing love it. Stupid.

Anyway, i'm reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I love this book more than life. I want to read the series over again.

I've been reading as much as I can this summer. So far I've managed a book every week. (though these are not too long, but hey, I'm reading when I'm not biking, working, or with people, so not as much time as I'd like)

Last 2 books were kinda odd for my taste, one was a kids book, and the other was something my gf wanted me to read (note to self, remember not to do that again, lol)

and

about to start this book

And I would recommend this to anyone who wants something amusing/interesting to read just for fun. By no means a AMAZING book, but this was fun none the less.

I finished Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" recently. Goddamn that book is long. John Gault's speech near the end will blow your mind. I had to put it down and think because I had a panic attack.

Right now I'm reading "Breakfast of Champions" by Vonnegut. Not sure if I like his writing style. It's definitely entertaining though.

Bikes: Super Pista, Basso, Big Dummy

I read like 5 or 6 books at the same time, usually. 1 or 2 at the coffeeshop (unbearable lightness of being), 1 or 2 at home (under the black flag{pirates} and high fidelity), and then the 1 or 2 that I picked up somewhere (booty nomad), then there are the constant reads that I pick up and scan through once in awhile (Pema Chodron, diary of a city priest, fight club). And, to further muck things up, I am currently listening to the entire set of The Dark Tower on my ipod.

wow I didn't know this thread existed.

the last book I finished was...gah...probably last fall. no, wait, winter.
I currently have a pile that includes:
Code - Lawrence Lessig
City of Bits - William Mitchell
(yay '90s sociology of technology!)
The Omnivore's Dilemma - Michael Pollan (I started this one...)
Villa Incognito - Tom Robbins (about half way thru it - a friend gave it to me I'm just having a hard time dealing with his cliched style)
Bonfire of the Vanities - Tom Wolfe (really want to read it, but his writing bothers me, esp after reading Charlotte Simmons)

there are more on my bookshelf I haven't gotten around to and probably never will.

"recently" read:
Lunar Park - Bret Easton Ellis
Consider the Lobster - David Foster Wallace

I see a lot of Palahniuk on here. I've never been able to get thru any of his books. gah. too creepy. that said, Bret Easton Ellis is my favorite author.

I tried reading that book but, I couldn't finish it. It's too damn long. I'm currently reading World War Z by Max Brooks.

you sort of almost have to read tom robbins for the thought behind his style, though his use of amusing analogies and turns of words is reminiscent of one of my favorite aspects of douglas adams' writing style.
