my straps split

should i worry about this? i just bought them a couple weeks ago, shiny and new, and now i guess the laminate between the two layers has kind of given up. i was thinking about just taping them, is that going to work? or is this something unfixable?

ride brakeless? Then definitely get some new straps. If it's your only, or even primary way of stopping, then why risk it? See if you can get them warrantied.

definitely get some new ones. you don't truly realize how important those things are until you have one snap on you.

snapping a toestrap sucks, and because of the way fixies use toestraps, it ALWAYS happens at the worst possible moment. the two times a toestrap has broken on me were when a cop stepped directly in front of me, and as i was merging at high speed into stopped traffic. very ****ing scary.

Amen to snapping a strap sucking. Especially brakeless. My about a month of riding Errebi sprint double straps have officially split on all four strap parts but they're def still going strong when it comes to functionality. Honestly if it's a laminated leather strap it should be fine to ride but if you don't like it/don't feel safe/have the money to fix it don't ride it. PS: double straps are mad nice

If you're worried about breaking, I recommend the toshi straps ( https://businesscycles.com/tstrap1x.htm they're the black ones, I have em in white ) ...

I like them cuz its two layers of leather with some nylon in the middle. They never stretch, and I've never had them break on me. Gonna be trying out those errebi straps though soon, they look so comfy.

Yeah dude the Errebi's are comfy as hell but honestly the fact that all 4 straps split within a month is a little disconcerting. With that in mind though there's really no noticeable difference in performance. I'd still give em my seal of approval for value to performance ration though.

yeah, it seems like the splitting thing isnt really affecting the performance. theyre EAI, which i thought were pretty nice. i was kind of surprised they split so soon, but it could be due to my inexperience with straps, and maybe i was abusing them a tad too much. anyways. and those businesscycle straps make my wallet wince a little. i was thinking about the ALEs on harriscyclery. any opinions on those?

edit: i was just looking at toe clips on ebay, and one seller suggests that the clips he is selling are ready to 'grease up' and install. what the hell is he talking about?

Bikes: all of them.

i snapped a strap at work a few days ago... i went home.

now i carry 2 extra nylon straps in my bag, but i have EAI lamenated straps on, but i can imagine snapping one, but im only riding one strap on each side right now.
