a little. sorry.

i see these faces a lot. car drivers get mad. a lot. for no good reason. a lot. and if you go to the link in the OP you should read it to the end. this is clearly no staging.

Nebulae 01-27-06 06:59 PM

zip zing pow!

humancongereel 01-27-06 07:03 PM

i agree with msngr on the faces.

as far as the photgrapher being a bastard...what would he have done that no one else was doing already? that's beside the point, though. but the idea of photojournalism, from all i've ever gathered, is to just document those things, for better or worse...if you put down the camera and involve yourself, it defeats the purpose. whether that would be better or worse is a hard argument, i'd say. pics like that can make a mass appeal to people. involving ones self can make a difference in the day of the person in the pictures. it's a toss up.

eyefloater 01-27-06 07:04 PM

The photographer (www.inconduit.com <- here's the link again) has been going out and shooting on the street almost every day for about 5 years now. I've known him since we were in school together. He's not a bastard, you don't know what you're talking about, and you should flip through one of your gf's photojournalism textbooks sometime and read through the ethics and accountability sections. Thanks to his shooting the event, there's now photographic evidence of what took place that can be used if it goes to court.

Go away.

Edit: got my spell on.

humancongereel 01-27-06 07:05 PM

yeah, court....that, too.

aekeroo 01-27-06 07:38 PM

of course its possible to take genuine photos like that in situations like that, why not? i myself am a photography student and ive taken clear photos while running with the camera behind me and shooting blind from a crazy drunk guy. big, heavy tripods, by the way, are an even more effective detterent than u-locks.

sers 01-27-06 07:41 PM

that wacko driver looks like henry rollins' little brother.

hyperRevue 01-27-06 07:44 PM

+1 on Nebulae having no idea what he's talking about.

Nebulae 01-27-06 07:54 PM

the animosity some of you have is unbelievable..
I've NEVER understood why people get so god damned snappy ..

Anyways, NO I didnt read the article at first.. and ALL I was commenting on was how the pictures LOOKED. How, in god's name people get offended at my commenting on the pictures ONLY is beyond me. If I had read the article first, yeah, i'd have a different opinion... If I had said, "that article is bogus, you're all morons" then sure, by all means, get pissy on the internet.. but I didnt. I commented on how the pictures look. Yep, I am in the wrong for leading it out there that I assumed all of it was a setup, and I apologize.. and shoulda read the article first.. but.. seriously learn the word compassion.. I shudder to think the temper levels some of you have in the "real world"

edit: I didnt mean to imply that your pal is a bastard.. but I guess I dont have what it takes to be a photojournalist.

Msngr 01-27-06 08:04 PM

don't sweat neb.

all in good humor.

Nebulae 01-27-06 08:07 PM

um.. i'm a dude... I think you have me confused..
unless my long hair confused you

humancongereel 01-27-06 08:09 PM

nevermind then. i didn't even really look at your pic except the main one (so that confusion's possibly involved, but the main thing is:)...i could have sworn you signed a message with a girl's name or made some reference to yourself...

ummm....

damn.

i feel ******** now.

eyefloater 01-27-06 08:10 PM

You know what, it's a tricky line to draw (at what point do you put the camera down, stop being a photojournalist and step in as a concerned bystander). I think my friend was within the accepted bounds in this case, but I know where you're coming from.

Life continues on, I'll step out of this discussion since I'm fairly biased and shouldn't be telling other people off just for expressing their opinion.

humancongereel 01-27-06 08:10 PM

grrr...that's not supposed to be a smiley. it should read "but the main thing is: )"

the only time ive signed name was when I put "judd" on there I think.. lol.. *cough*
also, my main pic .. I have a bit of facial hair going on..
glasses much? :P

humancongereel 01-27-06 08:16 PM

well, that main pic is sort of washed out...it sort of softened your features, i guess...

as far as the judd part...um....

i do need a new prescription for glasses and contacts, but i'll pretend that has nothing to do with it....

hyperRevue 01-27-06 08:25 PM

I based the "he" on the mention of his ex-girlfriend, which I guess has since been deleted.

And, I wasn't offended by anything.
Just stating my opinion on the conversation/debate on hand.

Man....go on a field trip, come back, and the whole forum is eating its own shorts for breakfast...

wtf?

SamHouston 01-28-06 08:00 AM

I see some people here know the photographer, he stuck around and talked to police, that's all anyone requires him to do. I've known lots of guys that would shout for police rather than fight a big ape attacking a woman on the street for obvious reaons and this guy had a camera making him a better eye witness than anyone. I'd bet he could see people were rushing to help by his first photo.

It's been pointed out that it's Kensington Market, the market is the sort of neighbourhood you can expect to be called out on littering, there is a definite community there and Leah is a part of it. That guy is obviously not and over-reacted severely. He isn't going to face charges, but I'd be interested to see if his picture pops up around there. Someone who sounded local replied on the Citysource thread that they would post a pic on a poster with his name (I guess they know??) all over the area, I wonder if they'll do it. Is that one of you guys?

That'd be great, anytime he or his girlfriend return to the core they'd be reminded that everyone knows he is a psychopath and needs help. If you are going to do that get me a copy of it!

Sirrobinofcoxly 01-28-06 08:20 AM

I work at the bike shop right up the street from this. Didn't even hear about it until i got home.
