Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Wait for it boys I see the day you will all have licensed transponders in your bags, and radio tags in your bike frames...to be inventoried and tracked. Yea the alley cat will become a sanctioned indoor event A la Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huck Jam. The gentrification of the messenger is coming similar to what happened to skateboarding.

i'd love to see the NYPD try to catch anyone riding in monster track. the ensuing chases would end in police cars flipping thru the air, scooters ending up crashed into fruit carts and police hanging like laundry or discarded sneakers from the traffic light arms of lightpoles.

Bikes: level, 78' shimano team

i'm thinking a good way to avoid tickets are to avoid streets with bike lanes. 2nd ave downtown, sixth ave, ect...i think thats were the cops usually post up.

last summer here, i was ticketed on a bike path for no helmet. goddamn cops just hanging out and ticketing people as they came along...can you say quotas!!?? ****!!

anyway, poetic jutice was issued when my ticket was being written a hot girl road by, helmeted, and gave the pigs the finger and yelled "**** cops!"

well hopefully it'll over really quickly......
They used to do it on Montreal every spring but generally left messenger alone as they knew the messers were the slickest things on the street. If it's a regular joe commuter crackdown then so be it. Gonna have to catch me first.... if it's going to cost me fifty buck I want some fun out of it first.

Just keep telling everyone that you are riding brakeless and are real badass - It will speed up the crackdown quite a bit.

I would love to see a police chase on tv where the cops are trying to catch a dude on a bike... it'd be funny...

the biker would turn and cops turn too but get stuck behind traffic...

my mental picture is so good. but at the same time i dont want to deal with cops showing up to the after party with a power saw and have a go at our chains and u-locks.

...the cops in Chi are totally chill, in my experience (true, they arrested a few people at last week's CritMass, but they weren't charged....plus, they actually corked intersections all along the route). I blow lights, don't signal, etc., in front of cops all the time and they could care less.
