downtown crack down!
remember last month when the cops ticketed every biker on 6th ave(nyc) for what ever they could come up with? well it seems after a few cops took a spill on there cute little scooters on friday, they had got there feelings hurt. now they are about to ticket everyone downtown. great.
i was just ordering some fish n chips on 1st ave and 5th st when this big doofy cop comes in and asks to speak with the manager. he tells the manager that the blah blah precinct is about to start ticketing bikers for all infractions. the cop told him to make sure his delivery guys had bells and stayed in the bike lanes and blah blah blah...he even had a peice of paper with all the things they will be ticketing for(wish i grabbed it).
hopefully they haven't polished up there motor skills and we should still be able to get away from them.
keep your eye out.

why are the nyc police afraid of cyclists? "infiltrating" CM like they're going to learn where to have the next big drug bust that way, handing out tickets like candy at a parade?
it just seems weird to me.

this is insane and has to end. does everyone have bloomberg's home address on 79th st? if so, please send snail-mail letters there explaining your feelings about his administration's anti-cycling stance. i've sent an angry and somewhat obnoxious one, but will re-think it and make it a little more rational. if anyone wants to see a copy of the last one i sent for ideas about topics to discuss, i'll post it. if anyone needs his mailing address, i'll post it. don't waste your time with email. snail mail is much better. lots of snailmail is best.

Explain to me how this improves ridership! ***** like this makes me want to go postal. Seriously, if they want to educate cyclists to do so legally and safely this is the wrong method. And they wonder why there is a cops vs. cyclist mentality out there. end rant.

Also, advise your local bike advocacy groups to use thier voice. Sadly it usually takes an established org to raise a stink.

got ticketed with about four other kids in brooklyn just the other day for going the wrong way up a one way. the cops had everyone all sitting on the curb and i was going by them and one cop started chasing me and yelling for me to stop, for some stupid reason, i did. so, i waited about twenty minutes for him to check my record, which was clean, then i got a court summons for being "reckless". some bull****.

Yep, I got nailed right there a couple of months ago. The 9th precinct does this, i believe , in response to people showing up at community affairs meetings complaining about bike riders safety and CM arrests.
Their only logic is to teach the riders how to be safer instead of making the streets safer for the rider. I was informed when I got my ticket that they were stepping it up because of CM and Brandie and Andrew being killed near by.

i thinkt he police crack down isn't only in NYC, cops here have been cracking down too, my friend got pulled earlier today for failure to use a hand signal?!? it's probably nothing as big as NYC, but my friends are getting ticketed and warned all over the place here too for stupid bs.

here's the NYC DA's office of community affairs phone number. if yr actually serious about wanting things to change and want to tell the cops how you feel and ask them what they think they're achieving by not greasing up their iron fist before they stick it to us, call the number, find out where/when the meetings are and show up. if we figure out which neighborhoods are most affected, maybe we can go as a group. but also send bloomberg some letters.

When I was a messer this would happen every spring. I'm hoping this doesn't have anything to do with Homeland security....
