Campy brake pad removal - help!

Here's a tech question for anyone familar with road brakes, Campy in particular. I didn't get any replies in the Mechanics forum, or by STFA, so I'll try with the FAR more helpful SS/FG gang...

What's the best way to remove road brake pads from their holders? Mine are stuck in place. I replaced them once before, but for the life of me I can't get the damn things out this time. I've tried pushing from the closed end, and pulling from the open end, but no go.

(In case there's confusion over which part I mean, I'm just trying to slide out the rubber brake pad, not unbolt the cartridge/holder from the caliper.)

Thanks for any help!

Have you tried inserting a small flat-bladed screwdriver into the open end between the holder and the pad and prying it out?

What about putting them in boiling water for a minute? I usually can get them using needlenose pliers and brute force/anger.

No irony intended -- as expected, you guys have come through. They're Record OEM pads, to be replaced with Kool Stops. I'll give the pliers another try, maybe with the help of a flathead screwdriver...with some boiling water and anger on the side, just in case.

Thanks!

seriously, I would use a small flathead screwdriver and a hammer and gently tap the pads out, if none of the other methods work. make sure you are pushing the pad out, not in.

80's campy record? If you dont mind destroying them I've always found that vise grips work well.
