Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Pet Peeves

This is the time to let your elitisism shine. What are you guys' pet peeves about fixed gear bikes? What amkes you turn your nose up at a bike? Everyone has them, lets hear it...my personal ones are when people convert really good road frames. There are enough old road frames to convert without ruining ones that deserve gears. Also lately I've been a little elitist about Nitto bars wrapped all the way up. Why spend $50 on NJS bars and then mess them up...just buy cheap track drops if you're gonna do that.

People who advertise stuff for sale in their sig because they aren't allowed in the "For Sale" subforum, then, instead of deleting the sig after it's been sold, they put "SOLD" after it.

big frames, when people use the same knife for jelly and peanut butter and leave little crystals of jelly sugars in the peanut butter, brakes, bikes that are clean, drop bars, period correct restorations, people with money and/or class, having one of my roommates knock my bike over

Really, why the eff don't you remove a no-longer-relevant ad frrom your sig, rvabiker??? WTF does writing "sold" after it achieve?

ON: I absolutely hate tt brake levers installed on moustache or other backwards-curving bars, and other idiotic "original" brake lever setups like BMX lever one guy had pointing inwards so that the cable made a big loop outwards wider than the handlebar. Also, saddles tilted way down (on any bike).

BTW, there was a thread exactly like this one a couple of months back and it degenerated into bickering exactly like this one...

People that set there crappy conversions up like a track bike, yes there are a few exceptions, but most conversions are crappy so save the money you spent on njs parts for a decent track frame.

People who ride brakeless, but can’t skip or skid. You gotta crawl before you walk, put that brake on at least until you’ve learned some valuable skills!

Brakeless bikes with platform pedals, especially those with high gearing. I don’t trust people that ride such bikes!

People who criticize how other people set up their own bikes

I can't stand beautiful old bikes stripped of their Nuovo Record brakes, derailleurs and shifters in order to make a "beater" conversion that'll have a host of dings, scratches and duct-tape on it in a matter of months. Sure, it's great to get a bike back on the road and use it, but it sometimes seems like a sacrilege to see a vintage geared Colnago or Bianchi converted into a fixed-gear, especially if someone does a lousy job in the conversion and builds it up with junk.
