Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

damn. i've wanted to go to SF for quite some time. thought about moving there at one point...but...um...until i looked at those pics again, i didn't realize there were palm trees there. i thought it was a good place to enjoy a palm tree-free california, more the sequoias and northern california feel. but i have a weird thing about palm trees. i don't like 'em. maybe kind of strange...but...give me rain and evergreens, moss and lichen any day...*sigh*, i think i'm tied to the northwest...

Don't really want to blow any illusions but there is a rather large palm tree right in Stumptown on NE Hoyt between Randall and Lawrence..... been there for many years. There are others but that one stands out.

(click on the pictures for a larger version)

I used to regularly commute from Philly:

to Camden:

Here's a cool shot I took by 30th street station (note the parked car in the background):

Obligatory bike pr0n; Schuylkill river (and Boathouse Row) in the background, taken next to the Art Museum. This is a really old picture, and my bike has since changed a bit.

late night roll in albuquerque - the lights are timed on most streets downtown, so you can blaze without concern for cross-traffic, especially in the small hours of the day/night

I actually hate palm trees too. They're in the touristy parts of SF--embarcadero, by the de Young, Union Square--because they don't have extensive root structures, don't drop lots of leaves and needles and things, and are easy to care for.

Meh I say.

You can ignore them pretty good 'round these parts, 'specially 'cause in the neighborhoods you don't see 'em, much.

thx schloe moe. I can´t say my friends have pitched your city in any nice way..The people I know from "chicaga" all live in NY now..I hope it treats you well.
On the other hand I would love to see Toronto. I´m a sucker I know.. I´ll buy anything my friends tell me. And they do have some good stories from the T..Insomnambulant have you been to any goldsprint by r-evolution?
