Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

My brother for getting me into fixies.
BikeTom in Uptown for giving me such an awesome deal on my Bianchi.
BikeForums for convincing me not to cover it in BET when I first signed up here, as well as a bunch of other stuff.
SatNight riders for getting me out of my house.
Chicago kids for putting me up a couple different times.

There's probably a whole bunch more - I doubt that I could put it all down here.

People: Pirates. Thanks for the ongoing sociological experiment. Thanks that we're all so different. Thanks that my reluctant "I need a nap" is always met with, in some form, a convincing argument for, say, a 26 mile ride up Cap Crescent Tr. and down Rock Creek Pkwy instead. Thanks for making realize what I really need to do sometimes: more fun, less grump, chill out, drink up, fall over, get up, ride on, eat pie, keep it awesome. Pirate for life.

edit* + Thanks to the BF for helping me pass time at my day job. Thanks SS/FG, cuz "you're the funny one."

Places: DC--the city of ambivalent people through a revolving door. Thanks for making me realize you have to fight to be content. Thanks PMA. Thanks riding past monuments, for being so pretty at night that it's surreal. Thanks riding laps at Hains Point in the rain, making $1.50 grilled cheese taste like the best thing in the world. Thanks Key bridge, a peaceful ride before the hills of Arlington kick my a$$ before I am home.

Things: Challenge KA proof press, a Rembrandt elephant etching press, a NuArc vacuum table, and a Raleigh Sportif, these machines saved my life.

Misc: the smell of ink, npr on the radio saturday mornings at my studio, waiting for the snow, a deckled edge on paper, coffee in a french press.

-Everyone who gave me parts, hookups, advice, and helped me build my first conversion 5 years ago.

-Alleycat organizers everywhere

-Chicago Streets & Sanitation for keeping it clean all winter.

-My girlfriend, for loving bikes almost as much as I do.

-QBP's employee purchase policy.

-BF posters, for distracting me at work.

-The Chicago kids of course.

I think I've posted here all of three times but...

Thanks for the search function so I can keep you yahoos for crackin' on me
Thanks for the 2 inches of snow thursday night so I could finally get the feel for really long skids
Thanks for all the drunk people downtown who cheered for me when I almost took a digger on said snow
Thanks for old school stronglight cranks with funky sizing so that I can ride five mile to the only LBS that has the right puller everytime I want to swap chainrings
Thanks for that LBS letting me use their tools
Thanks for conversions so that I don't have to ride a Langster (or a windsor) like (almost) every other fixed rider on my campus
Thanks Dad for buying a steel bike and keeping it good shape so I could inherit it 25 years later as my first road bike and 5 years after that make it my first fixed gear
