i've been waiting on some vittoria rubino pros i ordered a week ago to finish my phil/aero wheelset. fedex apparently delivered em today. i get home and find a note on the door that says "package left beside door behind garbage can"
of course it wasn't there.
a) seriously, who leaves a package right by the garbage?
b) i live in brooklyn, not rural iowa. don't leave my **** outside!

that southie loction isn't even that far out, I admit it's a hassle, but it's not a far ride at all.
and I agree, it's awesome to get stuff sent to work, it makes work exciting.
I love when my dispatcher is like, making a big deal about me getting a package, it makes me excited.

Damn that sucks! Hope your package was insured. Then at least the seller will replace your stuff and can file a claim w/ FedEx. Good luck!

i dont think it matters if it was insured with fedex. there's a thing on the message that i'm supposed to have to sign for them to be able to leave it. obviously i didn't sign it so i imagine they'll have to replace the ****.

Driver pays if they have to pay your claim. Left by garbage can? Please! That's nearly as bad as "Left by curbside collection pile".

The worse part is that someone probably took it, opened it at home, and then threw them away becuase it wasn't anything they could sell/pawn/use...
p.s. Have you tried looking in the dumpsters around you place in case someone pened them there?

FedEx = nonunion. crappy situation for drivers, many of whom are "independent operators," thus have no benefits, etc.
UPS = union.

So the driver just leaves your stuff any old place and he has to pay for it now? Sounds about right. What's wrong w/ some personal responsibility? FedEx can't find me, they just take it back to the depot and I have to pick it up. I'd rather do that than have him leave it in an unsecured location open to the public.

the FedEx guy should've know better if he's been on the job for more than a day that you can leave sh*t out in brooklyn.
I get most of my package at work, unless its big, then I'll wait at home. Yeah, UPS is much better, I'm cool with my UPS guy when somethings delivered at home. FedEx guy isn't all that friendly and my mailman is the laziest f**k in the world... I get magazines all torn up or looks like its been read for a month.
Delivery to work is the jam... a nice present to yourself during the work day and this way you won't miss packages.

UPS can suck real bad sometimes. I had to bike to Canarsie once to pick up a package because they couldn't manage to deliver it to me. They tried to deliver it once but no one was home. The note they left said it would be delivered on monday, but I knew that no one would be home on monday. Knowing that my roommate would be their tuesday, I rescheduled the deliver for then (on the UPS website). Tuesday comes and goes...apparently the driver couldn't find my place this time. Not only that, but I had to call UPS to fix the problem with the address (it didn't have an apt #, and the driver thought it was being delivered to a store). Eventually they told me just to pick up the package myself.

Bikes: currently, none. waiting for my bob jackson.
it is up to the driver's discretion whether to drop the package or not. unless you specifically declare insurance value or signature importance, they can choose to leave it. that sucks that it wasn't there when you got home, tho.
i can say with a lot of experience with these companies that fedex is amazing. contact their claims department. as long as you aren't requesting 500 bucks, they will usually mail you a check same day (although they probably won't tell you, it will just show up). they are way more concerned about return customers and reputation than losing a couple bucks for tires.
the secret is just to skip joe-blow who answers the phone and demand to speak to a manager. if you do this enough times, you will eventually reach a person who has enough priviledge to buy you off rather than waste their valuable time. it works every time. good luck.

i will only go usps now. they have a key to my door so they wont leave it on the street. im done with "delivered status: left on front door" actually meaning "go to wilmington office wait 30 mins for some jackass to get off the phone so they can let me in and then make stupid small talk while i shove my bike into the car". i thought delivery meant delivering. is this that really that difficult to comprehend??
and the answer is yes.

I got a new bike in the mail yesterday and the box... amazingly.. came to me unscathed with the bike inside without a scratch. I think it really depends on which area. Ups in my area is generally okay, fedex sucks and now that its fedex kinkos... it sucks more than ever.
