FGG question...

maybe i should put it on their forum, but there's a lot of cross-traffic, anyway. i only check once a week or so and get a week's worth of bikes...this is one i saw today, and i love it. the main question is--what tires are those? i haven't seen any in that shade except michelin pro race tires, which i don't want to ride. what do you think those are? is the owner on here?

Bikes: Raleigh conversion (hours spent making it look like a Pista); Porter Track, Samson Track, Leto Roadie.

I'm sure sashae will add something soon, but I seem to recall something about multiple flats on these in rapid succession?

Not that they're not super hot, and that this isn't one of the more heartbreakingly beautiful builds that's come around in a while

i ride them on my roadbike and haven't had any problems, b ut i have no idea how they'd hold up to skidding and skipping.

one of the things i really like about them is that you can run them at pretty high pressure.

also, they come in lots of colors.

light blue. stripped chrome pista, black seat and tape, pink bandana in lieu of a top tube pad, and light blue tires. that's my plan. subtle but hot is how i see it in my mind.

and thanks, dolface, for the info. i know some tires that last pretty well on roadbikes wouldn't last a month on a brakeless fixed gear. i am thinking about getting a front brake, though...just...because. why the hell not?

Bikes: 2 Unicycles duct taped together

I don't know how sashae is fairing with them, but I hated the fortezza se's. They're sticky as hell - awesome for road bikes and track-only track bikes - but for the street on a fixed gear they're just a bad investment. I blew through the rear in less than 2 weeks of heavy riding. I also wouldn't recommend them for the front if you're an aggressive/pot-hole-jumping/curb-bongoing/ped-dodging kind of rider. I know Michelin makes a baby-blue tire (the model escapes me), but even those are best saved for the front-only. Apparently light blue tires only come in sissy models?

I think Michelin makes some light blue ones. I've never ridden them though so I can't say how they are.

I think that might be the case. I had some blue Rubinos that were fine in the dry, but as soon as it rained, they'd flat if a piece of glass even looked at them.

that may indeed be the case, from how it sounds. the other thing i know is that some say that colored tires in general don't hold up as well. i know i had yellow tires a while back (already on the bike when i got it. i'm not a yellow guy, but they looked cool), and they held up well on a road bike for a month or two. then it was flats galore. i started using mr. tuffys and slime tubes. still flatted. in one two week stretch, i had 3 flats. and no money for new tires. those are also the same ones as the aforementioned michelins.

*sigh* i guess i'll re-work my plans. those tires look nice, sucks to find out everyone's had as ****ty a time with such tires as i've had with colored tires myself.

My Ruffy-Tuffy tires (now there's a name!) have held up to some pretty serious glass piles, even in the rain.

Downside is, they're either black with a gumwall, or black with that hideous speedblend. Also, 700x28, so I don't know how many track bikes can fit 'em. But I dig 'em!

Thought I saw my name

Yeah. I got 3 flats in 50 blocks riding home on a dry night, all 3 pinches -- two on the front! I'm admittedly a big guy (195 or so) but I've never, EVER had pinches like that. The odd part is I ran them 50mi RT into Jersey, no problems. .. but no potholes on that route. Rims are taped well, and the insides of the tires are clean of debris. Just tiny little snakebites (less than 1/8") each time.

The tires, when they're not flat ride very nicely -- good grip, and take 110psi with no problems.

I've had -zero- problems with either the Michelin Carbons or Axises on my beater -- plenty of skipping and pothole banging, but they're clearly a wider section (maybe 25mm even though they're marked 23mm) than the Fortezzas, which are a skinny 23.

hmmm, yeah, i'd probably go with 25s. the 23s i like, but somehow i like the way 25s are just slightly more grippy and stable. it's slight, but it's there.

3 flats in 50 blocks is insane. especially after a 50 mile ride with no problems. maybe they only have 50 miles in them?

They still *look* fine, which is what's weird... I rode today, no problems. I have no idea. Might have just been a bad night

true, true. that does happen sometimes. maybe sometime when i have money for two sets of tires, i'll make one set those and see how they hold up.

I've had good luck with Michelin Megamiums, which look almost identical to those, and are cheap.

3 flats on those in a week, and on the pricey side, great for taking pictures since they come in so many colors, not great for city riding.

I thought the same, until I started really beating on them. I thought they would wear out in a week or two.
Still going strong after a month, no wear, no flats.
