I think he means the awesome triumph bonneville. Tha black one rokks !
And 'universal' is a term that came about in the 70's to describe boring,
utilitarian motorcycle. Not meant in a bad way, just bikes that werent
custom or go-fast. REally though....most people who have been riding for
a long time and have gotten the usless little kiddy sportbike stuff out of the
way settle into the 'universal' frame of mind and laff while they blow the
sportbike kiddies away in the corners but still get to work or halfway across
the country cheaply and in comfort. A Honda NiteHawk 750 is a modern day
unversal as is the badazz Bonnieville.

Kind of partial to the new b-ville though. Whatever happened to the 'univeral' style.

If it's new, then it aint true! Gimme vintage, whether it's got a motor innit or not.

Thanks for the clarity on the last part, EIP. Yeah, i'm over the 'crotch rocket thing'. AND the pursuit bike phase! Just want to cruise and enjoy the ride, with a few blasts every now and again...

Yeah Adamkell, you figured the title out. Good job. You win the no-prize!

Anyone know Ural? Totally sweet 2 wheel drive sidecar bikes.

No one's mentioned Royal Enfield yet. If you want vintage style, that's what you ought to have. Plus they're cheap.

Oh yeah, supposedly they break down ALL THE TIME.

First bike: /2 Beemer.

Second bike: Royale Enfield Bullet. (no, they don't break down all the time, just when you let 'em sit.)

Both are too small for the American Highway System, I needs me a whopper!!

Ural is a copy of BMW Sahara - complete with boxer engine and kardan drive. Cool bike.

My friend has a vintage ducati with no gauges. Part of the tank is clear and to tell how much gas you have you simply look at the tank, if you see fuel - you have some, if you don't see fuel - your on empty.

Pretty much right on.

I do fancy the vintage nortons, triumphs and tritons (haha), but the performance and maintenance reliability issue comes into play. Wouldn't go cross country without a parts distributor/shop map. Love the vintage, but if it is my $$ and vintage, I'll go for a boxer (R60 maybe), guzzi 900 le mans (a bit sporty )

Then again, the local CL has the following vintage b-villes:

https://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/145363016.html (tough to top)
https://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/143917854.html

New 'universals' are bonnevilles, I still like the honda GB series (not dist in the us and a bit more cafe inspired), m-guzzi brava, some BMWs (don't really do it for me anymore though. vintage have character, but the newer boxers and single have a ubiquitous air about them), the small dark ducati is nice, but a bit sporty for touring.

Crotch rockets and chopper/cruisers have a purpose: I just don't have a purpose for them.

I was >< this close to buying a Ducati Monster Dark about three years ago. I bought a crap Honda 250 to practice on and got my temps. But after thinking about it for a while and talking with all my friends that had motorcycles, I decided that I'd instead pick up a hobby that was a bit safer. Thus, I started cycling.

Now I have a hard on for a Duc again.

Tell me that I shouldn't. But it'll be hard to listen.
