"nice bike" notes
does anyone remember the post a few weeks ago where someone found a note on their bike along the lines of "nice bike"?... and there's a website where you can print them out, and put them on people's bikes....
can't find it.
thanks.
sorry for being lame.

i got a note taped to my bike today. "Parking for employees and clients ONLY! Thank you!"
i guess people get pissed when there's nowhere to lock my bike at the building i need to go to, and i lock it to their handicapped parking sign...

I got one the other day that said "This bike is fantastic, Great Job". It looked like a 4 year old wrote it.
I also had some old fart ask me why I had a track bike in a town with no velodrome. He also said he had some nice vintage stuff, but couldn't supply a reason why he didn't have any sort of bike with him.

I was sitting at work the other day spying on a dude who was eyeing and circling my bike for almost 10 minutes.
It's a nice feeling.

if anyone is familiar with Leave No Trace (wilderness ethics program) my work recently got stickers that said "Leaving Your Mark is Overrated" from the organization and we couldn't help but trim one down to "Mark is Overrated" and slapping it on the downtube of our friend Mark's bike

Okay, aside from someone sneaking up on you and locking a new bike to your leg, "nice bike" notes are pretty much the anti-bike theft. I'm still waiting for my first note, but it's good to see that some people out there are making the effort to say something nice.

I saw something similar, a post-it with " mad cool bike, yo" written on it, stuck on to a bike that apeared to be out of commision for the past three centuries with the rusted frame and wheels, rotted tires, and everything else stripped. Worst part, made me and my, then newish, hybrid locked up next to it feel like s**t.

I got an all-office email a couple of months ago that said "Who parked the one-speed trainer outside?"
I replied to him and he was all "Sell me your bike!" I said no thanks-- I happen to use the damn thing. Then "Why not? Use the money to buy yourself a better bike. What, do you have some sort of sentimental attachment?" Was this about to get ugly?
I sent him links to FGG and Sheldon's site, told him I'd built it up myself and that he should do the same conversion dealy. But no, he didn't have the time or "space" to do that. So I sent him links to the Pista, Mark V, 9-2-5, etc-- but those were too expensive. He wanted my bike. I doubt he ever considered that the $150 he offered me would barely cover another cheap wheelset. He said he used to race road bikes and train on fixed. But money don't grow on trees, holmes. And road bikes don't just convert themselves.
I briefly considered offering to build something for him, but then realized that I don't like the guy. I'd be flattered to build a bike for a friend, but I really couldn't see why I'd put out that much effort for Captain Arrogance. Not to mention that the dude probably makes 3x my salary.

And then you find yourself with a great vintage track bike or something because the dude doesn't ride anymore and has been looking for someone like you to take the stuff off of his hands...
I think there's a possibility you missed out there...

I don't really ever leave my bike locked up outside for long enough periods of time to warrant notes. Yeah, in the grand scheme of things it's a dirt cheap, craptastic IRO, however my all red deep V's and red star gripped riser bars make it look pretty flashy and I equate flashy with desirable to thieves in my mind.
That said, I can't lock it up outside the coffee shop where I sometimes go to sit and read a book or study for more than five min. without someone coming by to stare at it, or approach me with questions. Narcissictic?(sic?) Maybe, but it makes me happy nonetheless.

nah...I've never been to Stumptown, although their coffee has been amazing when I've had it from other joints.
I usually chill out at Peet's in the Pearl while waiting for a shift at Globo Gym to begin, or sometimes on Sundays after swinging by Powell's for a fresh read.

ha ha, globo gym. at powell's, i just drink coffee there.
stumptown is nice because you can sit at the window or outside and just look at all the nice bikes, plus they it's cheap, and it's stumptown coffee, french press style.
