Pursuit Frames and Carbon Wheels
So I have been looking to trade in my conversion for a pursuit frame with trispoke wheels mainly because i absolutely love the way they look. But i had a few questions (and yes i tried many searches beforehand):
Are the carbon wheels not as strong and have a chance to go out of true (which i assume cant be fixed)?
secondly, anyone who rides pursuit frames or has ridden them, are they too uncomfortable to ride long distances?

Trispokes are very solid wheels. The problem is that they are very expensive, so if you were to crash and break them you will be very dissapointed. The Hed Trispoke is $695 per wheel.
If you have the pursuit bike set up truly as a pursuit bike, then it will be very uncomfortable for long distances, most people use longer stems, or different bar choices to make them safer/more comfortable for road riding.

i ride a pursuit frame, and for me it's pretty comfortable. dunno if that's because my spine is made out of rubber. the longest ride i've taken it on was 50 miles - i was worried that i'd need a back-iotomy afterwards, but ended up that i was fine.
it's a great ride to blast around town on, though!

yeah i saw those trispokes were super expensive, if i was to get one, i would get used front only (most likely). But how would you compare them to something like deep-v's with 3 or 4 crossed spokes.
And can they go outta true?
Harry- That bike is a BEAUT! is it the KHS pursuit?

i ride a pursuit frame on the street, and love it. nice and twitchy handling, short wheel base, and just makes you think your faster. i'm on the lookout for carbon spoked wheels on the 'bay, just for aesthetics. reminds me of my bmx days. i'd recommend 700/650. their always on the 'bay for cheap.

when i was on the lookout for one, one would pop up every week or so, usually under "time trial".

Cool, actual users..but I stand by my points, longer stem(HarryHood) or different bars(whoosh!) ;-)
Trispokes could go out of true..but I have seen MANY old ones that are fine. My rear Specialized TriSpoke is fine, and it is quite old. My front is also pretty old, and the seller said it was out of true..but looks and rides fine to me.

can road rear trispokes be converted? I know how track hubs work compared to regular hubs but with the trispoke kind of not having a hub..?
Zapp - are those tubular or clinchers? (i assume tubular since you normally ride track)

yeah, mine is the KHS aerotrack. FYI, it is a 700c front wheel. toverlap is INSANE, as i would imagine with most pursuit bikes.
that frame looks pretty sweet. are you looking specifically for a 650c front wheeled frame?
not that i condone this, but you could always swap out the fork for a 650 fork. a messenger here in SF did that with his KHS. it certainly would reduce toverlap by a bit. but i'd imagine it'd feel like you knuckles were almost scraping the ground

For the rear, it was actually a Specialized FREEWHEEL hub. In that case, you can run it on front or rear. If you want to run it on rear, you buy a Track Axle kit from HED which comes with a Track Axle and a chainline adapter.
The specialized cassette tri-spokes can NOT be adapted, and MOST of the HED3 cassette trispokes can. You have to send it to HED and they will adapt it and re-true it(according to an email conversation I had with them)
One of each, the front is tubular, the rear is clincher. Used buyers can't be picky
I also am not good enough of a rider to tell the difference..I had never ridden tubulars until I started buying used track/fixed stuff. I have several tubular rims, and several clincher rims that I mix and match...honestly can not tell the difference.
It might have to do with the quality of tubular/clincher that I am using, quality of the rims, setup of my bike, etc. I just can not tell the difference...so I rock what I have available.

wait, i insult your bastardization of language, and your comeback has nothing to do with the fact that you speak and type like a toothless rube, but instead is one that insults me for not living in your state? wow. personally, i wouldn't care if you were from texas so long as you weren't a patent texan (the hubris, the ghastly mispronunciations, etc.) because where you live isn't who you are. what's the last book you read? 'true stories of nascar heroism?' mother***, you are ********.
also, stateism is the pride of troglodytes.
