I'd also like to run this with someone. If anyone is down for the first weekend in June, let me know. |

So, we had a wierd moment yesterday on our recon.
There's a couple ways to lace up checkpoints 8 thru 10. One way is very tough, another route is kinda obvious but longer, and then there's this one path to the west of 8 that led up to a dead end and a very very strange sign: http://img351.imageshack.us/img351/197/rstrctdbx9xw.jpg wtf? I guess we're taking the long way. |
Luxury condo development? |
That's just a warning. And nowhere on it does it say you can't ride a bike through the area. Keep an eye out for space aliens though.
|
weird, but yeah. seems like you can go through. you might get stopped and searched though, which could slow ya down a bit.

The Internal Security Act (also known as the Subversive Activities Control Act, McCarran Act or ISA) of 1950 is a United States federal law that required the registration of Communist organizations with the Attorney General in the United States and established the Subversive Activities Control Board to investigate persons thought to be engaged in "un-American" activities. Members of these groups could not become citizens. Citizen-members could be denaturalized in five years. It was a key institution in the era of the Cold War, tightening alien exclusion and deportation laws and allowing for the detention of dangerous, disloyal, or subversive persons in times of war or "internal security emergency". Congress overrode President Harry Truman's veto to pass this bill. Truman called the bill "the greatest danger to freedom of speech, press, and assembly since the Alien and Sedition Laws of 1798 (Sedition Act of 1798)."
Sections of the ISA were gradually ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Much of the Act has been repealed, however some portions remain intact. Violation of Section 797 of title 50, United States Code (Section 21 of "the Internal Security Act of 1950"), for example, may be punishable by a prison term of up to 1 year.[1] |
Red Menace definitely has to go around.
that's nuts though. what the hell... |
I'm down for the 28th, as long as I'm not riding with any pinkos (you know who you are).

Cobralalalalalalalalalalalala Yesterday we did another recon hop and braving all kinds of crazy weather this time we went up with guncameras mounted. Against Ho's fatherly advice we decided to snake back over that way and follow the fence for a while just to see exactly what in the f*** is on the other side. After crawling along for 15 mins we ran into an old guardhouse complete with personnel! http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/8...rec52125uw.jpg We told these guys that we were out mountain biking and got lost. (They didn't even look twice at the bikes!) They were actually pretty cool to us and said they get visitors "from the outside" maybe twice a year. They wouldn't tell us what was behind the walls, but assured us that if the s*** ever hits the fan in NYC, this will be the safest place in the city to be. We laughed it off and without thinking I asked to get a picture of them. After taking this pic one of them says "Hey can I see that camera for a minute" and we bolted the f*** outta there. * * * Highway to Hell: lol lookit Amadeo trying to skitch off this guy on the expressway. We were able to keep up with the constant draft these cars were causing. At one point he grabs onto a car and the guy slows down to 20, then 10, then almost zero mph trying to shake Amadeo off. Then his window opens and he starts throwing stuff out the car at him. I was laughing so hard trying to take this pic that I almost fell over. http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/4...rec52132ja.jpg * * * and now here's a s***wreck we saw along the way. Pay attention *****s! http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/3...rec52118qc.jpg This photo was taken at one of the earliest checkpoints in the race, dating back to 1904. Everytime we pass a statue or monument I get this irresistable desire to act out scenes from "Dr. Strangelove". So I just went and did what came naturally. http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/7189/bxrec52158pp.jpg * * * when we got back to my ride, this kid was on it tryna make good her escape! after calling the authorities she was released into the custody of her parents. I must admit, I was shocked as hell when I saw wangster getting out of the car. http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/8...rec52149ps.jpg SO, in summary: You're all missing out if you haven't been to this fun place yet. More pics next time we go up. Anyone wants to tag along, feel free to do so. |
