May 1 Protest Thread
Where?
When?
How?
What will happen?
What happened?
Who is going?
In other words, what cities are having protests and who is going. I'm stuck at work, but I brought my fixed gear today. I'm off at 3:00 so I hope there's still something going in Sacramento by then. I forgot my cell, but I brought my camera.

I think someone doesn't quite understand the concept of a general strike.

The Sac protest starts at noon at southside park and ends up at the Capitol. Shouldn't be hard to find downtown.

Illegal immigrants and their supporters have called for a general strike to show how important they are to the economy.

The news around here reported this is "A Day Without Immigrants Rally". So far Houston has "thousands" meeting up in Memorial Park. More info on where the Houston rally is going here... https://www.click2houston.com/news/9137226/detail.html#

There are only 11-12 million working immigrants in this country. The only way for them to get attention is to march together, cause some traffic so people take notice, and boycott for a day. Cities like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego etc. will feel the effects.
I wouldn't expect Huntsville and Orlando to be affected.

No, there are a lot more "immigrants" working in this country than 11 million, there are supposedly 11-12 million ILLEGAL immigrants working in this country.

This is just silly. They are people and have rights like everyone else. They did however immigrate illegally therefore the term illegal immigrants is completely valid. We clearly shouldn't deport them all but they are illegal immigrants none the less.

An action is illegal, a person can't be illegal. Calling a person 'illegal' dehumanizes them. The names we use for things change the way we think about them, and people spend a lot of time and money framing a debate with a name. Do you think the terms 'Death Tax', 'Enemy Combatant', or 'War on Terror' happened by accident?
