Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I can't subject anyone to that type of torture. I'm gonna weld it to something public as an artistic statement. Think of Revs, but much more angst. I'm gonna be the next banksy.

Probably a conversion from a once-nice road frame that had all his braze-ons ground off. I'd be bitter too.

It's funny because it's true. Or is it true because it's funny? True because it's funny.

No doubt. I was noticing the fashionably unkempt of our Midtown are now polluting the air with ancient two-stroke Puch mopeds. I'm guessing they dumped the fixies because the exercise was making their legs too muscular for their style of pants.

Bikes: Various by application

That was phunnie. I must be in the wrong towns, but I've never heard an actual messenger, upon seeing someone on any kind of bike, refer to them as posing, faking, posengering or the like. If they aren't riding confidently...they may get a chuckle or a wry smile, but most don't care, long as the person is on a bike. I don't look like a hipster when I'm working, was working, whatever, so maybe I dunno these dudes. I usually wore straight lycra in heat, layering up thin as the temp drops.

Then again I probably hang out with old couriers, who truly do not care one iota what you think...they didn't even see you, if they did it was just your bike they saw.

yeah, i know. i've been visiting the bay area on a pretty much annual basis for the last 25 years or so. my comment only related to the whole gun thing.

also, there seems to be an awful lot of defensiveness in this thread. it's cute.

the two go toghether - the definsiveness comes from insecurity which comes from not having guns and not having guns leads to insecurity, defensiveness, and ultimately to track bikes on city streets. So maybe if we all had guns there would be not track bike problem.
