its time to upgrade with a new crankset, and i was just wondering if its really worth it to have my bike be the hottest ride on the block if i have to buy a new bottom bracket for the jaw-dropping vigorelli, or if i just pay about 100 bucks less and put on a not so cool looking but still real sweet sugino 75 crankset

Does the FSA take an external-bearing BB? If so, there are benefits beyond the mad ill style points. The bearings are larger, and last longer, or so I've heard.

I don't like the FSA cranks. I think the non-retail one are pretty hot, but I don't care for the solid look.

The black 75's are fantastic on the other hand. That year Pista doesn't have the ISIS bottom bracket? I've got an 03 that does.

Man, the FSA's would look good on that frame. I like mine.
The black Sugi's are sweet, until the anodizing wears off right away and they look like crap. Every set I've seen so far has done it.

How's this-- If you have an ISIS bb, buy the FSA's. Square taper, the Sugino's.

yea, the anodizing does wear off quickly the black 75s. my friend's (imoncrank) set had worn away a couple days upon mounting. my black sugino 75s after seeing his has been covered in black electrical tape. If you run clipless, it may be less of an issue but not sure though.

i rubbed the decals and anodizing off the silver ones too, but yea. the black ones don't look so hot if your toe straps rub up against them. Clipless, not so much of a problem. Try sugino 75s with a zen ring. pretty snazzy looking combo, imho.

i wouldn't choose my cranks based on what BB i have. especially if a new bb costs less than the difference between the cranks.

to the OP, if i were in your shoes, i'd go with the sugino 75's, because i think the fsa's are kinda ugly. but you do what you want, spend what you want. either way, they'll probably suit you just fine.

I'd go Sugino 75. I have the black crankset with a Blackspire chainring and I really like it. No wear on the crank after a month and a half of riding with clips. I'm not into the FSA solid look either.

2 days to be exact. However I do run double straps. I'll throw in for the suginos because they're fricking bombproof and stiff as hell. Mine withstood a 25mph curbstrike dead on and all it did was chip a little anodizing on the bottom. Guess they have that little NJS stamp for a reason. And besides that, worn away anodizing shows use = sweet!

looks aside, i would say sugino 75's. solid cranks, and if you already have a perfectly good square taper bb w/ a 108mm to 110mm spindle (ideal for 75 is 109 but its an odd size to find without buying the 75 bb) it saves you some money/time/effort.

the fas vig cranks are lame. the carbon disk rubs on the crank arm and streches out, so there is play in the chain ring. I know 2 people who sent them back to fsa for the same prob and they filled the gap with jb weld. fsa is known for putting products on the market with very little research. also i have never seen a set of suginos break ever.

the fsa cranks are kinda cool in an agro way, but the 75s are really classic and timeless. they'll last forever, too.

i agree on the 75s. they're solid. i don't really care for the FSA.

The vig's are dope if your into the stealth/nihgtrider look. Just got mine delivered on monday. The 75's are the kickass too. So whatever you like more I suppose is what you should get.

i say: don't spend any more money on stupid isis bottom brackets.

either go back to square taper or foward to external bearing... it isn't worth putting nice cranks on a *****ty bottom bracket design.

I had the FSAs, absolutely no problems. All the problems with the spider loosening from the actual cranks were on the original Vigorellis, FSA fixed the problem. If you are using them on the track, then go with the Viggies, because they would look pretty smokin' and be stiff and smooth. If you are mostly on the street then definetely go with the 75's, they're metal and square taper meaning they will survive a crash that your body won't. I never really had that confidence riding my Vigorellis on the street, which I felt was important. Had I been able to do it over, I would prefer the 75s over my DA's even, just because you don't have to use the octalink garbage.
