Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

OK.

So the radio station where I work is doing this project in which we are soliciting letters from prisoners across the US and Canada.

We got one today from Ted Kaczynski.

Why are you people still posting? Matthew A Brown wins. Nothing any of you have experienced will be even marginally important or interesting compared to this.

Matthew A Brown, sir, I salute you.

So, I've shaken the hand that shook the hand of the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
My mom ate at a banquet in Ethiopia put on by Haile Selassie in the 70s. She said that the comparison between the decadence of the banquet inside and the poverty of the people outside was striking and very saddening.

Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects

Hey shesmyrushmoree-

I have a serious question -- are you riding regular ol' pedals fixed? I'm coming from being a bmx kid 25 years ago, so clipless & toestraps freak me out a little. If platform pedals are seriously viable as a fixed option, I might try it out.

Flats + fixed = sketchy. Even with a front brake.

From: where i lay my head is home.

Bikes: bianchi pista workhorse, cannondale r1000, mountain bike fixed conversion

though with a really low gear ratio, it'd be better. see article: fixed polo bikes, for instance.

anyway...nwo that the real person has shown up...is this going to be the next nathan fabian meme? i don't think this photo has quite as much panache. fabian got old, but now that things have levelled off...i do have to say that it was all pretty funny.

Imagine a gold naga triple tandem with Nathan Fab, smoking dude, and the mini-bike guy riding it, all doing Natty Fabs, simultaneously. No wait, make it a quadruple tandem so the lemon-bike guy won't be left out. And there is the birthday horse in the sky.
