Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? BMX/fixed gear Hub question

I saw a pair of Phill Wood hubs on ebay the other day that went for round $75. They were still hooked up to a pair of 20 inch BMX wheels, but I was wondeing if they could've been used as track hubs.

Could someone please enlighten me?

more than likely you will have spacing and/or chain line problems, not to mention that most bmx hub of late have 14mm axels vs 3/8...in the end depending on how old the hub is and whether or not the spacing is dramiaticly different you can prob. make it work..

That wheel was probably (edit: may have been) built up to ride on a BMX Flatland bike. Trevor Meyer rode one for a while back in like 2000. You can do some crazy flatland tricks with a fixed hub. They called it "direct-drive".

Expn.com story

It's common to use an axle converter to move a 3/8 axle up to 14mm for 14mm dropouts.

Phil used to make BMX hubs. They are for a freewheel.

If you are talking about these, that's a freewheel hub.

This is what I was talking about. Would the axle converters make something like that work?
