Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Fall down three times shame on the city for opening a hole in the ground and not closing it for 2+ years, but instead laying down a slippery, loose metal plate surrounded by loose, soft pavement. Shame on all cities for not finishing ANY road work in a timely, safe manner.

Statistically, Boston gets more rain than Seattle.

I object to this generalization. Anyone in Philly in the past couple months can attest to the fact that the city has been doing a pretty tidy job of resurfacing most of the numbered streets in Center City.
I had to change my commute to avoid the graded roads about six weeks ago, but a week ago I ran the old route to see if they had made any progress, and lo and behold 20th was so black and so smooth. It was like riding on the back of a giant panther (or something). And after a little exploration it turns out that they've got them all redone down to Broad.
So yeah maybe the rest of the world is ****ty in this regard, but in my opinion Illadelph is the ****.

statistically, any major eastern seaboard city gets more rain than seattle.

the thing aout seattle is that the years rain allotment comes down stretched out over pretty much the entire year. It hardly ever rains hard is seattle, it rains lightly, all the time. [except the summer which is amazing]

I'd MUCH rather take six or seven big storms than 250 days of drizzle, but then again, I'm getting about due to leave the northwest.

Yeah, did some time out in the downpour today, lessons learned:

1. Gotta remember to put on the fender before I leave. Doesn't do any good if I forget to clip it on.
2. Mashing up the hill to my street in a downpour results in skidding uphill and loosing all momentum. Time for new tires perhaps.

I love riding in warm rain, it was warm as **** last night(friday), and I went for a ride out to pleasure bay at like midnight, and then back up and in through state street eventually, and the rain is ****ing amazing to spray pedestrians and parked cars with puddles.

If I get a good puddle and a good kick out into it, I can spray someone from head to toe. it's ****ing rad.

you'll see, whoever rides with me in the rain before I move to philly, you'll see.

Riding in the rain means great practice for hockey stops. Yes rain.
