The Prices Of Bicycles These Days?!

What's up with the prices of bicycles these days?

I'm not talking about custom works of art or Italian masterpieces but mass manufactured bikes like Trek & Specialized & Giants?

Are these companies trying to reinvent themselves for the higher end?

I get that there's a lacking "middle market" w/ consumer goods these days since today's middle-class consumers are seeking higher levels of quality, taste, and aspiration than had ever been possible before. Hell, we can all aspire to be yuppies!

Anyone have any insight into this regarding bikes these days?

I don't consider the Trek 1000 that expensive. And their FX bikes are even cheaper. What do you want?

Yeah, of what models are you specifically referring?
You can get a Trek 7000 for under $300 at my shop

Bikes: track bikes, etc

All I know...is that I paid way too much for a Cinelli with a very low bottom-bracket!

Bikes: 74 paramount track, 80s maruishi track, 70s chesini track.

those three frames on your chicago CL seem to be pretty reasonably priced. all good frame/forks, all interesting enough and obscure enough to fetch high prices on the ebay market (assuming the fads and fashions are pointing to that region of origin for those frames...) and all being sold at low prices considering what they are and their rarity. anyone can purchase a brand new cinelli for about $900... now anyone can get an njs-something frame for about $800... seeing frame/fork combos with bb and hs for under $600 is refreshing as can be.

I'm sorry, but I don't see the used deals out there so much any more either. Everyone on Ebay seems to want 90% of what they paid for any particular thing. And you need to be quick to snatch up the few really shining deals at yard sales or in the paper, or you'll have to bid on them on Ebay.

Well, that's the nature of the beast, I'm not going to find a good trek 610 for $75, or a mint bickerton portable for $50 every day, but they're worth the price. Otoh, ebay's not that bad so long as you don't mind a decent 80's steel/alum bike, like this...
Well worth the ~$100-200, and will probably ride as well as a new bottom of the line trek road bike.

Not so much track stuff but like the road stuff from Trek, Giant, ect.

$900 for a Cinelli with Thron tubing is dumb...I will sell you one with more chrome for a little cheaper.
