Wow, those are awesome! And you used felt too, that makes it doubly awesome. Is that wool or synthetic?

thanks! as far as i can remember the felt is F3 quality. which means that it has a higher wool content. i was trying to find a way to work within the realm of sustainability. wool is an excellent material for the job. the cool thing about felt is that it can go from being extremely stiff(think masonite) to floppy and all over the place(think dishrag)

Definately. There's also the recyclability factor, which could eliminate factory waste by continually carding the excess and refelting it.

Something I want to try but is completely unsustainable: wool biocomposite.

Probably would work best pouring the resin over a loosely knit piece rather than felt though...

That chair's really nice. But is it comfortable?

comfortable? yes
ive read 100+ pages in one sitting on it.
i also use it to work do work from the laptop.
it looks very angular but it uses the easy 105 degree angle with about 1-2deg pitch in the seat to relieve your knees and feet.

@ kludge— love the thought behind those letter holders. I was trying to source some thick felt for some ID projects; where did you find yours?

it's nice that knowing rules of ergonomics/user interaction lets you pretend to break them— often leading to a 'eureka!' moment when a user realizes that the object is actually remarkably useful.

thanks a lot! the letter holders were my attempt at sustainable design. I have to bring this up becuase part of the reason felt became an attractive material to use was it's wide availability at a local level. I am in the bay area, the one place that has never let me down is Pacific Felt and Mnfg. I believe that they can go up to 2 inches thick. If you go over to them or call them up with your problem(if you get one of the more relaxed folks) they will listen and most likely provide more than enough samples to get you going(if you request samples). Another good place to check out is Darcoid Rubber and Seal CO. I dont know how they are for felt but they have the best prices I have seen for Die cutting. If you want to ship stuff, try US Felt. they are on the web. the only bad thing about US Felt is that you have to know exactly what you want(thickness, quality) or you wont get any where.

An easy solution is simply to make your own though. That's what I've done.

I'm a photo editor in my spare time, as well as o n my own time, for my own art. That blur effect was done in ps.
