Art(s) in progress
building a bike is an art form... so is painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking, sewing, filming, editing, performing and lots of other things...
here is a thread where you can post documentation of ongoing art projects/bike builds no one likes showing work that is in progress BUT doing so pushes you that much harder to make the end product as amazing as you can, plus it's cool to see progressions. So post your Art(s) in progress... |
In progress.

writing...
the fact that I am going to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing keeps me writing as much as possible. Even if what comes out is horrid. More often than not, it is detestable. But it may be something to work with in the future. I also look at others' art (photography, painting, ink/prints) and gain inspiration in writing. They are all doorways we can use to enter others' thoughts and interpretations. Great thread idea. |
found negative...just want to clean it up and print it 4X4. just cause I can...it is from an old Warner Bros flick.
http://static.flickr.com/37/80682722_2c71579116_o.jpg this piece is done...but right now I am just teasing everyone... http://static.flickr.com/47/125505195_016ec45cec_o.jpg best bike I have ever ridden! |
He receives an instant endorsement of himself when they respond to his laughter.
The people drawn towards political careers are usually the most susceptible to corruption, people who join the military are those with the least reluctance to kill, and the people who become artists are the most likely to mistake self-infatuation for substance. Art, like all forms of human communication, can transmit only within the limits imposed by its participants. Anyway, I like art. Thanks for starting the thread.

OH! good thread. Here's what I'm working on atm...
Kris Drake Photography - almost fully complete, just some minor tweaks to some of the actionscript. http://www.andrewgruhn.com/bikePhoto...hotography.jpg and Sound Unseen 2006 - which is almost built (on the back end) and in limbo waiting for new content as movies and events are booked http://www.andrewgruhn.com/bikePhotos/soundunseen.jpg |

Incoming indeed. end. now - back to good things. |
i don't have any pictures of any of my in-process art, but i paint some and throw pots quite a bit...
here's a teapot i recently made that i'm pleased with: http://myspace-284.vo.llnwd.net/0080...09348284_l.jpg if anyone is a potter and cares, it's porcelin, with a carbon trap shino glaze fired to cone 10 with HEAVY reduction. i made the handle as well... it's my first one like this. actually i did the mosaic on the tabletop it's sitting on as well... here's a painting i did awhile back: http://static.flickr.com/70/172074582_9dc34b84b7_b.jpg "a lament for the boy who lives on my stairs" mixed media on linen (a curtain... ha!) it's all found objects from my old house. it's a curtain stretched over an old window frame. there is also old wallpaper and photo's from 'have you seen me?' cards i collected for two years. and another: http://static.flickr.com/60/172074583_4877b80a71_b.jpg "10,000 deaths! to great expectations" also stretched over an old window frame. |
That teapot is most amazing. Massive props for that.
LóFarkas: Thanks :). |
I like the handle on that teapot a lot.

are those going to be available for purchase, or are you just doing a one off one for yourself? that **** is hot. |
thanks guys! i really like it too. i made another teapot for a friend's wedding (no picture) and am going to make another handle like this. i hope round two turns out better.
|
I would totally be into buying one if you start selling. My 3 that I have now are most likely mass produced, so getting one made by and individual's love would be amazing.

yeah, that teapot is awesome. haha somehow i've ended up with many friends who do ceramics so i've gotten pretty into it. one of them is actually from colorado springs too! she lives in louisiana now. you know a girl named tina from up that way?
also, you get the record? |
isotopedopearope - that handle looks to be Asian-inspired. Nicely done. The glaze/finish lends to an overall autumnal feel. Whether or not that was your goal, it was what it achieved.

here's a teapot i recently made that i'm pleased with: and yes. anarchy, patriotism, nationalism and State are all in confused states of distress. evan, shishi, etc., i only had 8 jerseys made, so... no. they won't really be available. i'm trading them with some people for stuff that they've made/designed/built. |

also, you get the record? i did indeed get the records. thanks so much. i like the bullets*in record, but it didn't kick me in the face. i do like that reds album though! i actually at least might know who your friend is... friends of friends sort of thing. i doubt she knows who i am. i think she's a bit older than me, i'm 29, and i think she used to work at the place here called van briggle. also, i think she used to work at this sculpture manufacturing place called terrance patterson that i later worked at as well... which is how i got to know of her.

japanese pottery is my main influence. i really am into their idea of wabi sabi... the beauty of imperfection. though this teapot is very round and straight, i enjoy making more "loose" forms. i have another shot at home of a tea bowl of mine with the same glaze that is very wabi-sabi. i don't have many shots of my pottery. i give it away or sell it too quickly. that glaze is also a japanese style of glaze called a shino, though this recipe i made is more americanized, than the traditional japanese pure feldspar with little ash used for flux. shino is very very very old glaze. 1500's or probably even older... i think it might be one of the first glazes, and not just a salt or ash fired. but i'm just speculating. i need to learn a lot more. shino's also tend to crawl and break up or bubble... i love very earthy looking glazes. this glaze gets even more dynamic on other clay bodies, but still reacts greatly to porcelin. the heavy reduction firing i did (meaning i starved the burners of oxygen and heavily restricted the exhaust) also lends itself to more of this palette of color... hope i didn't dork out too much. -chris |
