singurlifeman 12-19-07 10:46 PM

ps, those are just test prints since im trying out a new material to print on.

kyle! 12-20-07 02:50 AM

how are you pressing those? with some sort of large roller? or a steamroller?

singurlifeman 12-20-07 10:15 AM

with a roller i had the shop tech weld together using a roller from a tread mill and some steel bars. its like a big push roller.

ch0mb0 12-20-07 10:20 AM

holy jeep jumpin christ that's kickass

what kind of wood is that?

goldenskeletons 12-20-07 10:46 AM

holy crap! that's quite an undertaking for a print! its really impressive. how did you come up with the concept? what/who is it for?

one of my roommates is a printmaking major and after seeing this i just want to tell her to drop out. ;)

good ****. def. post up your finished product, i'm kinda psyched to see it printed with all the detail.

i was really into lino/wood cuts for a while. but doing them at home with no press isn't the same.

i should take the class again.

visitordesign 12-20-07 02:43 PM

jesus. that's huge-mungiz.
the illustration reminds of of some of the stuff my friend nate does for his bands.

currently working on a print but my screens are giving me a hell of a time.

plus I dont have the right color ink so my plan on staying up all night finishing them is out the window.

lordgold 12-20-07 11:26 PM

Sage, what are you majoring in?

I'm still in AFO, but I'm looking at Graphic Design.

piratelove 12-20-07 11:38 PM

GDES!
one more semester!!
you should definitely do it.

lordgold 12-20-07 11:44 PM

Yeah, I've been stuck between that and photography. GDES makes a lot more sense, and I don't get bored of it like I do photography.

Is it really that difficult to get into? I know a lot of it is to scare freshman into doing their work.

piratelove 12-20-07 11:54 PM

It's alot easier to get into then Photo, which only accepts something like 15-20 students.
If you're interested in photography there's a million+ opportunities to apply that to your projects in design, obviously..

It can be alot of work, but if you're into it and on top of your **** it's no problem.
If you just wanna **** around in photoshop and illustrator though, then there's no point...

Straws 12-20-07 11:55 PM

my roommate is in illustration, er communication arts now, and loves it.

People like that piss me off. I took the GDES project class this (well, now last) semester, and we did a project arranging four 2x8" strips of black paper on a 10x10" white square. So many kids pitched a ****ing fit about it, asking "Why aren't we using photoshop" etc. About 95% of the class thought Graphic Design was all about making t-shirts.

wow, thanks man. i really appreciate it.

it kind of started out of nowhere. i had been wanting to do a print of that size for a while now, but couldnt get the energy together to get started. finally before i knew it i had a month left in the semester and had to do something, so i went for it.

the idea stemmed from me at first wanting to recreate myself as shiva, vishnu, and brahma. so after some tinkering in photoshop i came up with that image. after thinking about a border, i had to be careful because depending on what type i used it could be said that i was implying something completely unintentional (ie. if i used a victorian border, would i be saying something about the colonization of india etc.)

this was for my relief printing class. it kind of got me addicted to woodcutting and next semester im going to be working on more prints of this size. maybe following the same idea of human/animal hybrids.

who knows.

not to sound rude but....

that looks like a solid 20 minutes worth of work. what in the world could possibly take 2 years to do on that? and why would you waste 20 minutes (much less 2 years) to make an ugly image of some ugly ricer car?

spacehippo 12-21-07 12:07 PM

I think his car IS the project?

goldenskeletons 12-21-07 12:11 PM

that takes longer than 20 minutes.

this took 20 minutes.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1235/...fda802925f.jpg

so, a little more than 20 minutes. its pretty clean linework, though, even if its just tracing and rendering an image.

dmotoguy 12-21-07 12:15 PM

thats pretty cool looking, how do you do it? (im a noob)

xylophonecks 12-21-07 12:17 PM

it's just tracing and coloring over the original image, most likely in a vector based illustration program.
