well, that makes sense. much easier to reface the headtube without powder coat in there.

Bikes: some but not enough

recommend getting the wheel set sorted out first. you bought a Nashbar single speed kit, is this a pair of spacers that fit on a cassette rear hub? If it is, then you need to make sure you get a cassette style rear hub, and not a freewheel type (more research homework). The cog spacing that the kit will give you will determine the spindle length of the BB you need to get. Pray that someone reading this thread has done this and know the right measurements.

BB: a Shimano UN53 is pretty sweet for the money. special tool is required to install, hope for local help.

PM me if you need a BMX cog 15T or 16T

It might "make sense" in hind-sight.
But they just forgot to remove them.
Sure was a pain in the ass when I came to replacing that headset.

How come you didn't just take the headset off? I can maybe understand leaving the cups in, but why not take the fork out, and not have to deal with any of the hardware?

just to be different, i'm gonna go against photographic evidence and give this kid the benefit of the doubt. i'd still like to hear the specifics of the headset masking job (shrinkwrap?).

I'm sorry to belabor the point.
But there is no way in hell that there is electrical tape on the headset in that white picture.
Can we see some after pics of the headset?

true, one can spray paint a headset, or anything else on a bicycle, and it will still run, quite possibly for many years with no problems.

i think we were just curious as to how you masked the headset, as the electrical tape is not visible in your picture.

anyway, you have a good point. at 17 i did waaaaay stupider **** than painting a headset, and we all need to get a life

Sounds like it doesn't really matter, since it is adjustable.

He's right, there are multiple spacers that came with your SS conversion kit. You can move the cog in and out so that it lines up with whatever chainring position you end up with.

Ill second the Shimano UN-53 or UN-73 BB. They are dirt cheap and I ran mine for a while without a problem.
